Edexcel GCSE Weimar and Nazi Germany Lesson 1 on mini unit on the Weimar Germany Golden Years 1924-1929 Includes a retrieval starter to match up Stresemann’s policies to the problems they solved and a summary of positive and negative outcomes. Then examines a debate on the extent to which living standards improves (refers to textbook but all stats/ info is on one of the slides). Encourages students to develop explanation/ analysis for themselves for how and why this would improve living conditions. Segue into WEimar culture- Art looking at Metropolis by Otto Dix and social commentary on divided society in Weimar Germany- Primary source analysis then examination of effect of Weimar Constitution and examination of New Objectivism in German Art/ culture. This is part of my wider Unit on Weimar Germany but a 3 parter on “how golden were the golden years” as an enquiry/ debate for Interpretations.

Edexcel GCSE Germany The Kapp Putsch Fully resourced and detailed lesson on the Kapp Putsch and Red Rising in the Ruhr plus threats faced by both the Left and Right Wing with evaluation/ analysis task of threats from both sides. The lesson includes fully editable powerpoint, worksheet templates which are dual coded for fact files on each rebellion as well as information sheet for students so they do not need a textbook. Also includes political parties information and a spectrum diagram. This will support interpretations work on threats posed to the Weimar Republic. Edexcel GCSE (Can be used by other boards) lesson on the Arms Race Key Topic 1: Lesson 5 the Arms Race and escalating tension between East and West This one follows my lesson on the First Berlin Crisis 1948 Causes and consequences of the Arms Race between USA and USSR- also includes leadership changes from Stalin-Khrushchev and Truman-Eisenhower and a brief bit of contextual info on Korea (Korea is not explicitly a part of this spec but is useful to see what is going on). Also has links to a video to demonstrate the destructive power of Hydrogen bomb compared to Atomic bomb used in Japan. Also includes a brief bit on the Geneva summit 1955 and a guided “Write a narrative account anaysing key events of Berlin Crisis” question with model answer.

OCR ALevel Russia 1894-1941 works for other exam boards too! Two hour lesson on Stalin’s cultural revolution and use of propaganda including his development of the cult of personality in four stages to ensure control in Soviet Russia. Fully resourced but can be done more independently using the Corin and Feihn textbooks- if you have them- if not slides can be printed for each group because all info is on there from the textbook. I do the reading so you don’t have to!

Edexcel GCSE Superpower Relations and the Cold War This is my 4th lesson from Key Topic 3: The End of the Cold War but can be used as a stand alone lesson. In depth examination of who Reagan was, his ideas and beliefs and his policies including increased arms spending, rolling back Communism by funding guerrillas and the Strategic Defense Initiative (Star Wars) programme. Includes youtube video clips, source work and all the detail needed for students. Fully resourced nothing else needed. Examines how Reagan’s personality played a key role in developments from the Second Cold War to Gorbacev;s “New thinking” and need to reform the USSR (this is next lesson). Also includes a bumper retrieval practice for Key Topic 1 and 2 Highlighter Heads to help students recall key individuals from earlier in the Cold War (includes all key individuals from Roosevelt to Brezhnev, Dubcek and Husak). This lesson is an intro to the Suffragettes for Y9- it examines Victorian attitudes towards women and looks at despite rich women having some benefits they were still repressed in terms of rights in the household, their opinions etc. Includes video clips from Mary Poppins and Oliver Twist, sources from anti-women’s suffrage posters and also discussions around how far sexual equality has moved on since women got the vote with modern adverts and stats.

The Background to and Causes of the Tyrone Rebellion ALevel OCR- Tudor Rebellions. The 9 Years War Irish History This is one of the Depth studies- a likely exam question since the focus has largely been on the Pilgrimage of Grace and the Western Rebellion up til now. This work will take several one hour lessons - it recaps the prior Irish rebellions such as Desmond and Geraldine since the legacy of these was one of the reasons. Looks at Tyrone’s demands as well as the motivations of Hugh Roe O’Donnell and Hugh Maguire.

Exam board: Edexcel but easily used for AQA also. This booklet has taken me a long time to put together but I am finally happy with it- all organised thematically. They also included modelled practice for tasks students need to complete and example answers for all exam question types.
