Edexcel GCSE Weimar and Nazi Germany Lesson 1 on mini unit on the Weimar Germany Golden Years 1924-1929 Includes a retrieval starter to match up Stresemann’s policies to the problems they solved and a summary of positive and negative outcomes. Then examines a debate on the extent to which living standards improves (refers to textbook but all stats/ info is on one of the slides). Encourages students to develop explanation/ analysis for themselves for how and why this would improve living conditions. Segue into WEimar culture- Art looking at Metropolis by Otto Dix and social commentary on divided society in Weimar Germany- Primary source analysis then examination of effect of Weimar Constitution and examination of New Objectivism in German Art/ culture. This is part of my wider Unit on Weimar Germany but a 3 parter on “how golden were the golden years” as an enquiry/ debate for Interpretations.

This mega bundle includes lessons on the following rebellions: The Amicable Grant 1525 The Pilgrimage of Grace Depth study (includes over 12 hours of learning plus hwk including detailed lessons on Causes, Nature, Impact and Threat) The Western Rebellion Depth study as above Reading on the Mid-Tudor Crisis Interpretation practices questions on Pilgrimage of Grace and Western including model answers The Kett Rebellion 1549 I haven’t included the Siilken Thomas rebellion as I teach this at the end as a discrete unit on Ireland so the rebs make more sense and I include it in my Ireland bundle. Both Depth studies from OCR course are included in this bundle which is why it is a bit more expensive than my normal rebellions lessons. Each mini unit is stretched over 12 hours of lessons plus hwk. Last few years’ results since COVID have been excellent- average student marks on Interps questions 21.8/30 (mixed ability comprehensive) and thematic qs 18.2/25 so I know these lessons work well. Edexcel GCSE (Can be used by other boards) lesson on the Arms Race Key Topic 1: Lesson 5 the Arms Race and escalating tension between East and West This one follows my lesson on the First Berlin Crisis 1948 Causes and consequences of the Arms Race between USA and USSR- also includes leadership changes from Stalin-Khrushchev and Truman-Eisenhower and a brief bit of contextual info on Korea (Korea is not explicitly a part of this spec but is useful to see what is going on). Also has links to a video to demonstrate the destructive power of Hydrogen bomb compared to Atomic bomb used in Japan. Also includes a brief bit on the Geneva summit 1955 and a guided “Write a narrative account anaysing key events of Berlin Crisis” question with model answer.

Edexcel GCSE Superpower Relations and the Cold War This is my 4th lesson from Key Topic 3: The End of the Cold War but can be used as a stand alone lesson. In depth examination of who Reagan was, his ideas and beliefs and his policies including increased arms spending, rolling back Communism by funding guerrillas and the Strategic Defense Initiative (Star Wars) programme. Includes youtube video clips, source work and all the detail needed for students. Fully resourced nothing else needed. Examines how Reagan’s personality played a key role in developments from the Second Cold War to Gorbacev;s “New thinking” and need to reform the USSR (this is next lesson). Also includes a bumper retrieval practice for Key Topic 1 and 2 Highlighter Heads to help students recall key individuals from earlier in the Cold War (includes all key individuals from Roosevelt to Brezhnev, Dubcek and Husak). The 9 Years War Irish History This is one of the Depth studies- a likely exam question since the focus has largely been on the Pilgrimage of Grace and the Western Rebellion up til now. This work will take several one hour lessons - it recaps the prior Irish rebellions such as Desmond and Geraldine since the legacy of these was one of the reasons. Looks at Tyrone’s demands as well as the motivations of Hugh Roe O’Donnell and Hugh Maguire.
