This lesson starts by taking students real-life knowledge into account by starting the class by asking students to write how the weather outside makes them feel? The lesson then builds on this knowledge by giving students extra information. The main activity is to read a chapter from The Hobbit where pathetic fallacy is used.

Banquo’s Ghost scene is one of the key scenes within Macbeth. This lesson allows students to imagine they are 1) Banquo’s Ghost and 2) The Attendants at the Banquet. This is done by a visual aspect via a video where it allows the students feel as if they are present. They also have to highlight Lady Macbeth’s role in this scene before close analysis of the scene in pairs.

This PowerPoint starts with a re-cap on context from Northern Ireland. It then gives students information on the many layers within the poem and also what Longley’s main message is. The students are then asked to answer questions on the poem-these are displayed within the PowerPoint and leads to discussion. Before moving to a diary entry, students are asked to choose a statement. This is to assess the students understanding of the poem before moving forward. In this lesson we focus on what the men in the bunk house say about Curley’s Wife-making students aware this automatically gives us a bad impression of Curley’s Wife without even meeting her yet! This PowerPoint is a general introduction to AFOREST and how it can be used in Room 101. This lesson can be easily changed for remote learning as it has elements of both remote and classroom learning. The structure is based on a ‘Do Now’ followed by a ‘Think-Pair-Share’ activity. It then allows the teacher to teach AFOREST in the way they wish depending on the groups ability. The PowerPoint then has a quiz that can be altered adhering to the school and a sample paragraph where students are to highlight/underline AFOREST techniques. The lesson ends with an individual writing task, followed by a plenary.

This resource is part of a lesson I had for an inspection where we focused on Dickens’ portrayal of Fagin. This extracts focuses on Fagin’s final scene. This exercise can be done in pairs or individually. It is also differentiated to higher and lower to allow all students to access it. Students first read the extract and then answer the questions on the sheet.

A PowerPoint presentation that analyses Bertie and Lionel's relationship in The Kings Speech. There are links to two particular scenes showing the development of the relationship embedded in the PowerPoint which are used for students to analyse. Students are then asked to work in pairs to create a timeline of this relationship. Students have clear aims from the start and deep analysis of the relationship is explored using questioning, visual prompts, pair and individual work.

This lesson covers all of Act 1 Scene 3 where both Macbeth and Banquo meet the Three Witches. The onus of this lesson is to show students the start of Macbeth’s ambition. Students are asked to ‘put themselves in the shoes’ of both Macbeth and Banquo. They then answer a series of questions before analysing small extracts that show Macbeth’s internal struggle and also ambition.

This is a resource I used with my KS4 students on their Coursework A for Pearson IGCSE Edexcel. This was used after students were due to submit their final piece of work. This RAG (Red, Amber, Green) list asks them several questions to make sure they have proofread their essay before submission. The resource is 2 pages and can be glued into their books or placed into their folder.

A summary of Roald Dahls short story ‘First Day’. This have been used with a mixed ability Year 7 group after we worked on an a piece of writing about their first day in seconday school.

This lesson is one whereby students will have a close marking assessment piece of writing to complete. This is midway through the SoW for Mice and Men and is used to improve students writing through feedback.
