Level 5 Adjectives: The purple ‘describe’ cards are the adjectives in a sentence. An adjective is a describing word. The ‘describe’ card can be placed at different points to describe different words in the sentence. Various strips are included.
Level 6 Adverbs:
Adverbs are words that change verbs, adjectives and other adverbs. They can modify (or change) a verb by making it more precise. This pack includes adverbs, fronted adverbials and prepositions.
Level 7 Conjunctions:
Conjunctions are used to join two clauses or expand an idea. This pack contains both coordinating and subordinating conjunctions.
Level 8 Negatives:
This pack includes modal verbs to show how possible something is, or how likely it is to happen/have happened. The cards help children learn how to indicate degrees of possibility and how to use them correctly in language.
The cards can also be used to help children learn to form questions by inversion. For example:
Statement = She can go to the park.
Question = Can she go to the park?

This activity can be used in at least 4 different ways! I have used it for the following:
teaching food vocabulary: This can be done either in the context of shopping or as expressing likes, dislikes. Both options are included in this resource.
using commas to separate items in a list: Use the game cards for children to use as a writing prompt. They can record what each person bought at the supermarket to practise using commas.
Shopping list memory game: Give each child a shopping list and lay out the green cards on the table. Give them a moment to look at their list then turn it over. They must try and remember which items they need to buy in the correct order!
speaking and listening to describe someone’s shopping list: Children could use real life experiences to recall a visit to the shops with family. What did each member buy?

The most popular way I have used this resource is with a ‘mystery bag’ of real Lego pieces in the corresponding colours. Have students reach in and select however many pieces they need (easy differentiation). They can then use the blocks to create a short creative writing piece, linked to your current theme, or use the picture prompts included for inspiration.
Alternatively, you can laminate the brick cards and have children select a number from a bag/pack.
