British Empire Source Assessments

(1)
This pack contains three possible assessments that use sources as evidence for students to give an opinion on the British Empire. The John Bull Assessment would require some prior knowledge. The Mark scheme is quite detailed.

Stamp Out Hatred & Intolerance Everywhere Assembly

This is an assembly PPT I gave on tolerance for others. It delved into the death of Sophie Lancaster Since Sophie's death on August 24th, 2007, following the horrific attack on her and her partner Rob in Stubbeylee Park, Bacup, Lancashire, we had lots of kind offers of support and donations. Sophie and Rob dressed in their unique way, expressing their individuality as creative artistic people.

United Symbols Video tests how much students know already about the flags that make up the British Flag. Basic Handout task. United Grid could be completed with some basic research as a homework task. You could give a prompt sheet if you want it to take place in class

More key events for On This Day will become available. Entire months will be available ready for the new year. You can use them in history class or with your tutor groups.

Black Peoples of North America Introduction lesson jumps straight into using sources as evidence for opinions. Learning Outcomes (Success Criteria): • Some students must be aware of the types of conditions, their response to it and begin to form a sentence which explains this. • As above and should be supported through the use of a source or quotation. Some reference to the consequences, short or long term can be made. • As above and this could be a supported opinion. This opinion is explained in the context of the period
Keep Calm Worksheet

Keep Calm Worksheet

(0)
A simple worksheet that can be used in class or for a homework assignment. The idea is for the student to generate their own variants of the poster that would fit into a different historical event or time frame. Perhaps "Keep Calm and Ignore the Mongols!" This means it can be used multiple times throughout the year as an assignment. You can edit the Docx file to make it work for other subjects.

Amazing Grace - End of Slavery - Abolition Factors GB Lesson

(0)
This is a good coda lesson after you have taught about the Abolitionists and the End of Slavery in Great Britain. It makes use of the song as evidence and frames the factors behind abolition in a different light. I recommend having different versions of the song, so you can have them playing for students unfamiliar with the song. Home Free Vocal Band have a wonderful acapella version.

Roman Numerals - Impact of the Romans

(0)
Resources here for two lessons - Can be one if you have covered Roman Numerals already. Then you can focus on the Extended Tasks. Lesson works as an introduction into Roman Numerals and evolves into how they permeate our lives. This then feeds into the extended tasks and sees how the legacy list connects to now. Mind maps can be used in both lessons.

Foreign Words and Places in English / England

The Places have basic starting with or ending with to distinguish whether they are Roman, Viking, Saxon or Norman. Great for post-1066 lesson or learning about local geography. Use a local or national map. The Words tasks are quite simple and show the students how many words in English are actually from elsewhere.
