This lesson has been specifically developed to support students with learning or intellectual difficulties to understand key aspects relating to: SAFETY IN THE COMMUNITY A mini lesson exploring tips and strategies for personal safety when you are out and about in the community. We explore tips for keeping you safe with strangers, when you are out on the town as well as exploring the risks associated with texting. This lesson has been created to include key information in a easy to read manner with visuals to support information retention. Depending on the age, developmental level and key learning needs, Teachers, Parents, School Counsellors and other Allied Health Professionals should use their insight and judgement to determine whether the information contained in this lesson is suitable and appropriate for each individual student. This lesson is built into a scaffold learning system with a total of 6 lessons. You can choose to use this lesson in isolation, however should you with to further build the knowledge around relationships and sexuality, feel free to check out the remainder of the lessons. This set includes 104 cards which include a variety of CVC words for each vowel. Who would benefit from using these cards? Children who have difficulty with speech and articulation would benefit from this set. These may include children with apraxia of speech, autism, Down Syndrome and severe phonological processes would benefit from these cards. These cards would even help in building up the students vocabulary. There are two buckets included at the end of the set. The first bucket can include the articulation cards which have been able to be successfully completed and the second bucket is for the articulation cards that might need a little bit more practice. Sandwich ingredients represent the various strategies to support the student to use self esteem strategies. The following strategies are included: be authentic, eat healthy foods, exercise regularly, good sleep, positive affirmations, list your wins and accomplishments, pamper yourself, favourite music, create a memory box, clean environment, avoid triggers, deep breathing/meditation, set realistic goal and take action and surround yourself with positive people. This is a great way to introduce the concepts of “bucket filling” for the beginning of the year or reminders of self-care and positive and empowering learning environments. There are a total of 60 cards which includes a particular behaviour and on each card the student is asked to reflect on the situation and choose whether it is a Bucket Filler or a Bucket Dipper. The student may require some reflective questioning should they need prompting as to how and why a behaviour may be a bucket filler or a bucket dipper. These cards are created to facilitate conversation, discussion and insight. Fine motor skills are achieved when children learn to use their smaller muscles, like muscles in the hands, fingers, and wrists.
