This is lesson 2 of my mini unit on Weimar Culture and How Golden were the Golden Years? This lesson is focused on a depth study of German culture during the 1920s and the Liberal winds of change which swept through German cities in the 1920s. This lesson includes: women and sexuality, LGBTQ history in Berlin, Art and Architecture (Bauhaus and Gropius), Leisure and Jazz and Cinema as well as behaviour and attitudinal changes and the ways in which they were perceived differently in society. Very teacher led lesson but should produce some fantastic discussion and very relevant to today in terms of “culture wars” as a distraction from some of the problems in society. Wiill also serve as a great contrast to Life in Nazi Germany in topic 4

KS3 lesson (can be adapted for KS4) using sources for students to independently investigate life in the trenches and why the casualty rate was so high. -Includes all resources- video clip of Harry Patch describing losing a fellow soldier and the injuries they suffered, sources and guided note taking sheet.

Alevel Russia 1894-1941 OCR but can be used for any spec with Lenin. Very detailed resources on the effects of War Communism, impact and opposition to the Bolsheviks and the reasons why NEP was introduced, what the NEP was and successes and failures of the NEP as well as impact on the Bolsheviks includes Decree on Party Unity and hints about how Stalin used this later on. All resources are included, does not require any textbook/ additional worksheets. Also includes an example 10 mark Question about why NEP was introduced- Kronstadt rising or famine in the countryside. Double Lesson for ALevel OCR TUdor Rebellions focused on the Oxfordshire and Essex Rebellions- more on the Essex Rebellion since Oxfordshire is not very significant and doesn’t have lots of material. Very comprehensive 2 x 2 hour lessons (more if you use the Starkey youtube clip)- ((you may want to include a disclaimer about his views not being the views of your History department!)) and use all of the reading. Essex is such a character- I love teaching this. You can also buy this as part of a bundle of Tudor Rebellions lessons on Rebellions against Mary and Elizabeth (England only) I have a separate bundle for Ireland.

Lesson for OCR ALevel spec Russia 1894-1941 but useful for any other spec involving Russian revolution- can also be simplified for GCSE. This lesson is designed to reflect on Nicholas’ problems and explain the growth of opposition against the Tsar in Russia prior to the 1905 revolution. Looking at the long term impact of Alexander IIs reforms such as the creation of Zemstvo and Emancipation of Serfs and the political spectrum. Lesson designed to take 2 hours plus homework- the Marxism stuff takes a lot of explaining!

Edexcel GCSE History- Superpower Relations and the Cold War Key Topic 3: The end of the Cold War Lesson 5 Gorbachev’s New Thinking and Summits to end the Cold War Detailed lesson looking at causes, policies and consequences of Gorbachev’s New Thinking in the USSR. Examines the role of Perestroika and Glasnost in bringing an end to the Cold War. Includes a colour code activity and worksheet as well as an 8 mark question with gap fill model answer (explain two consequences). Does not require textbook, includes all information/ resources you need.

Lesson for Edexcel GCSE Weimar and Nazi Germany This lesson looks at Nazi policies towards the Church including why the Church was a threat as well as support from members of the church such as Ludwig Muller. The lesson examines and evaluates Nazi policies to control the Church- weighing up successes overall. Includes colour code activity, discussion tasks, guided note making and justification of arguments. Includes interpretation evidence for the debate at the end.

OCR ALevel History Russia 1894-1941 Topic 2: Towards a Constitutional Monarchy. This two hour lesson examines the creation of the Duma from the October Manifesto and the limits of the Fundamental laws. Also examines the challenges of the Duma and the makeup of them and why Nicholas dissolved them each time. Includes detailed information and all resources needed if you do not have textbook pages from Corin and Fiehn- I have typed up all necessary info onto documents to accompany the lesson.

This is a KS3 lesson for Y7/8 and has quite a high challenge/ stretch and challenge for more able pupils. It follows on from my lesson on Henry VII and his problems and solutions and is best used with the attached glossary of key terms. It also addresses many of the misconceptions about Henry as a fat tyrannical ruler that we know he became later in his reign and looks at the optimism of a young Renaissance Prince- handsome and youthful in stark contrast to his father,
