A Simple presentation which includes a starter to recap the structure of the heart, and then promote discussion and to how coronary arteries may become blocked, risk factors and treatments for CHD. The powerpoint has supporting notes. The two sided worksheet includes low to higher demand questions to check understanding of CHD progression, risk factors and treatments. The dominoes are a nice pairs/individual loop activity which could be used as a starter to review heart structure and blood components

This is a visual sheet with various questions, colouring activities and CLOZE tasks. It gives an overview of the whole of the topic - communicable disease examples, body’s front line defences, white blood cells and immunity, vaccines, anitbiotics and resistance, and drug development.It looks great in A3. I have produced this with my foundation students in mind, who are perhaps lacking motivation with the exam season fast approaching. However, there are questions dotted throughout to stretch the student’s thinking

New buyers only!*** Engaging activity on DNA replication - students work through the sheet using pipe cleaners to explain why the evidence proves replication is semi-conservative and not conservative or dispersive. Focusses on the experiment involving bacteria grown on heavy and light N isotopes. All you will need are 2 pipe cleaners of one colour, and 14 of another colour, per group (cut them into shorter ones to make them go further!). It is a student led activity - the presentation is a markscheme which allows you to work through the correct answers via useful PowerPoint animations

Cut and Stick activity and associated comprehension tasks, along with a projectable markscheme (PPT file). The cut and stick covers both stages of meiosis and genetic recombination, and provides a nice 20-30 minute activity that has proven to be an effective AfL task with my own classes, which was well received.

This sheet has been produced with the AQA spec in mind but would be highly relevant to any A level Biology course. It touches on introns and exons, how to read a triplet table and the nature of the genetic code being Universal, Non-overlapping and Degenerate, whilst recapping some of the basics on nucleotides and amino acids. Also included is a comprehensive markscheme which you could scroll through via a projector to review with your class.

A PowerPoint which explores how DNA Methylation of promotors and Acetylation of histones affects gene expression. It is well illustrated and explores its implications in genetic disorders (prader-willi and angelman) as well as cancer. The worksheet then explores these concepts, which have suggested answers provided via the markscheme.
