An assembly I put together on the importance of resilience. It is based around the film ‘The Swimmers’ on Netflix, which follows two sisters - Yusra and Sara - who fled Syria and still manged to compete at the Rio Olympics. I linked this to my schools values and the importance of never giving up! Helps if you have watched the film but you can easily find the story online too.

An investigative lesson on the murder of Emmett Till and how his death inspired others in the Civil Rights movement. There is a source activity for students to work out what happened in 1955. The slides then go through the murder and aftermath, including the trial and public reaction. The lesson ends on how Till’s death inspired Rosa Parks. There is the option to get students to write a newspaper article surrounding Till. Lesson plan included. My students have always enjoyed this lesson!
