Addressing the challenge of behaviour management
Q3 Academy Langley is an 11 to 16 school in the UK that has been using Class Charts since it first opened in 2016. With just 153 students in its first year of operation, the school has grown significantly to accommodate 1,264 students, with projections to reach 1,500 over the next three years. The school has found the platform to be invaluable in improving student outcomes and making teachers' lives easier.
For Peter Lee, Head of School at Q3 Academy Langley, improving student outcomes means getting the best possible GCSE results and developing them as good citizens for the future. Class Charts has been instrumental in achieving this goal by providing a platform for every member of staff to get to know their students, including details such as reading ages, whether they receive free school meal, or have additional needs.
The school has provided all staff with a tablet or laptop to use Class Charts. This way, teachers always have access to the platform and can easily monitor their classes' behaviour and academic progress. The school also uses Class Charts to mange the school's behaviour system, which is built around positive reinforcement. The school uses a system called "cue points," which is a monetary value assigned for good behaviour, such as academic achievement, use of vocabulary, or verbal contribution.
The platform allows teachers to track both positive and negative interactions with students. The students have a record of their achievements, and parents can also monitor their child's progress via the app. Parents are encouraged to download the Class Charts app, as it provides a breakdown of the child's day, including all positive and negative interactions with teachers.
Q3 Academy Langley has implemented various policies and systems to support its use of Class Charts. For instance, when students arrive in the morning, they come into Tutor Time, where their equipment is checked. If they’ve all the required items, they receive two cue points, promoting a positive start to the day.
Overall, Q3 Academy Langley's use of Class Charts has been a success, with the platform providing teachers and students with a streamlined approach to monitoring progress and behaviour. Class Charts has allowed teachers to be proactive in supporting their students, promoting positive reinforcement and creating a supportive learning environment
