A WELL-DESERVED and long-overdue pay rise is how your correspondent Ms Mottershed (TES, July 21) sees the bribe for teachers to accept performance related pay.
What a shame that she and so many of my colleagues have been money-grubbing enough to fall for the Government’s ploy. The intelligent thing to do would have been to refuse to engage with a system that will divide staffrooms ad lead to de-professionalisation.
Maybe the National Union of Teachers is the last bastion of the intelligent teacher. Fortunately there are still some of us who take the broader view and examine the harm that this kind of initiative will do and rather than just thinking of ourselves.
