The threat of legal action has helped to persuade a school inspection company in Portugal to abandon the name “Ofsted” and rename itself Insted.
The Organisation for Standards in Education decided this week to prefix its name with the word “International” following complaints that it was attempting to deceive parents and trade on the reputation of the English inspectorate.
The Office for Standards in Education threatened legal action against its Portuguese namesake, which accredits schools for l1,000 (pound;683) per year.
Ofsted said it was pleased that the Portuguese firm had stopped using the name and removed misleading references from its marketing materials.
The internet home of the former Ofsted, www.ofsted.net, is now offering “off-beat steamroller edu-tainment”, but redirects visitors who are looking for school inspectors to the company’s new website at www.insted.org
