MORE than 2,500 pupils had to answer questions in a history GCSE on a period they had not studied because of a blunder by exam board OCR. Students were asked about the role of the church in medieval justice, but the syllabus specified they study crime and punishment in Anglo-Saxon times. The exam tested their ability to use historical source material provided in the paper. OCR apologised for the error and said candidates were able to attempt the questions using the material. A spokesman said marking would be adjusted to accommodate the mistake.
