We often hear of the desperate need to attract more good honours graduates into teaching. I am a physics graduate, now retired, who spent a couple of years working in a school and many more in a technical college.
It seemed to me that high intellectual ability in a teacher is only really relevant post-GCSE, whereas at earlier stages it is more important to have teachers who relate well to, and have a natural ability with, children. The former are often not the latter!
