LITERACY CONNECTIONS: Strategies to help with Literacy at KS3. By Ray Barker and Christine Moorcroft. Stanley Thornes pound;75

There is a bright new beast arriving in the classroom this autumn - students fresh from primary school and consistent exposure to the literacy hour, with different experiences and expectations from those we have been used to. Literacy Connections aims to help teahers provide continuity with students’ primary school experience and to support implementation of the literacy framework with a range of photocopiable activities to assist exploration of texts at word, sentence and text level. The activities are soundly structured and reassuringly expressed, with some suggestions for extra-curricular activities. Potentially very useful indeed.
