Mary Scanlon, Tory MSP for Highlands and Islands, is a former FE lecturer like Andrew Welsh. Indeed, a moment does not pass in any of her education speeches without a brief reminder of her past.
At really eloquent moments, Scanlon is prone to recall happy days at deficit-ridden Inverness College, no matter the occasion, as she did again in the debate on the teachers’ dispute.
Peter Peacock, the Deputy Education Minister, was quick to remind us that “her redundancy package may have contributed to costs at Inverness College”.
