Lots of people use a diary to record the events and thoughts of the day. An interesting and empowering twist is to write a forecast journal: at breakfast, or when you wake up, jot down what you’d like to have happen that day. Here are some tips for making this a great motivational and planning tool:
* Don’t just make it a to-do list, but write emotionally and colourfully, as you would in a regular journal.
* Write about what you will say and do (we can’t control or predict what others will do).
* Be positive. Write: “Today, X, Y, and Z will happen”, rather than “I hope that todayI ” or “It would be nice if todayI ”
* From time to time, notice which things consistently don’t work out the way you’d like. Consider what you could do differently to get the result you want.
If you spend five minutes every morning writing in your forecast journal, you may soon notice that you feel more in control of your life.
