Meet the trainee: in liverpool

I’ve just been thrown into a class of 30 seven-year-olds and left to teach maths. What an experience! It was definitely a sink or swim situation.
I want to become a teacher because every day brings new challenges and rewards.
The most exciting thing that’s happened to me so far is being accepted on the course. My school left me believing that I had no chance of further education.
But I’m really not looking forward to graduating and being in the real world. That scares me to death.
I don’t understand why I was given such a huge responsibility so early on.
I had to teach seven-year-olds about drugs and alcohol and was anxious about how much detail I should go into. It made me feel rather uncomfortable.
I hope I’ll be the kind of teacher who will make a difference to children’s education. I know the kind of teacher that I don’t want to be. The teacher who was always right and never listened.
