A short novel by Jacqueline Wilson, Lizzie Zipmouth, illustrated by Nick Sharratt (Young Corgi pound;3.50) is the funny, but insightful story of Lizzie, who refuses to speak when her mother moves in with her new partner and his two sons. She doesn’t want to share her mum with anybody. Once again Wilson is happy to take young readers where others fear to tread, facing some thorny social issues head-on. Ideal for the young confident and adventurous readers this imprint s aimed at.

Most Harry Potter fans will have devoured the fourth book of seven and will enjoy meeting J K Rowling in the Telling Tales series about children’s authors (Mammoth pound;2.99 each). This volume includes an interview with the author and an appreciation of the books by Lindsey Fraser. Good background material for older primary readers and their teachers. For those who enjoyed Lizzie Zipmouth, Jacqueline Wilson is featured in the same series.
