LEVELS of natural light are so low at Malmesbury School in Wiltshire, which opened in April, that strip lights have to be kept on all day.
“It is not any different to our previous buildings, which were built in the 1950s and 1960s,” said Malcolm Trobe, the school’s head.
But, he added, the limited number of windows in classrooms would help to reduce heating costs in the school. Indeed, Malcolm Dodds, senior education officer for Wiltshire County Council, believes pupils at Malmesbury have little reason to be disappointed.
“Previously, they were split across three sites,in old buildings and mobile classrooms,” he said.“I think they recognise the huge improvementthe project has brought about.”
