Nigel Paine, SCET’s chief executive, said that they catered for all sectors “from pre-school to lifelong learning”. The 21 staff from the MEDC would be able to offer IT training for college lecturers and develop software and other resources.
In the past 18 years the MEDC managed the introduction of IT systems to colleges and built links with industry and internationally. With SCET it has been involved in the Glasgow Telecolleges Network, which provides an electronic link among all 10 of the city’s FE colleges.
Mr Paine said: “There is much synergy between the organisations. Through acquiring the additional expertise of MEDC staff, SCET will significantly strengthen its base as a full service provider of technology support, information, advice and software.”
John Gordon, director of MEDC, said he was “excited” by the possibilities lying ahead. “We are delighted to be working with SCET in this way and I am confident that the strengths and skills of MEDC will make a major contribution to SCET’s work in the future.”
