A tribunal has ruled that Suffolk County Council and a secondary school should apologise to the parents of a teenager suffering from a “school phobia” for discriminating against him. The Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal found the council and the school’s governors unlawfully discriminated against the boy, now aged 16, on four occasions. The decision follows an unsuccessful attempt to prosecute the boy’s parents for failing to ensure he attended school regularly. The school and council have been given until December 1 to apologise, but may appeal.
