Global citizenship
- Michael Purves, a P6 teacher at Yester Primary in East Lothian, has won an award at the eTwinning annual conference in Lisbon for his work in setting up “Schoolovision”, a competition to link primaries from across Europe, based on the Eurovision song contest. Now in its fifth year, it involves schools from 41 countries.

- Schools and colleges are being urged to enter this year’s Edwards education awards, run by national charity Epilepsy Action. The Edwards recognise those providing a supportive learning environment for students with epilepsy, which affects some 63,400 children and young people under 18 in the UK.

Health
- Children’s charity Place2Be has announced a partnership with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Glasgow City Council for the roll-out of its award-winning mental health services to 15 primaries in the city, supporting up to 4,000 5- to 11-year-olds. Its counselling and therapeutic services were piloted in two Easterhouse primaries. The contract for 15 schools will cost #163;1.2 million over three years.

- Shawlands Academy pupils have joined forces with ScotRail’s “adopt a station” project to spruce up their local station at Crossmyloof in Glasgow. As well as planning to install eight half-barrel planters for students to create and maintain, the young people can showcase their talents in the form of a poster.
No to violence
PSE
- A pilot scheme to tackle harassment, abuse and violence by men against women is being rolled out in East Ayrshire’s Doon Academy. The #163;40,000 Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) project - developed by Strathclyde Police’s Violence Reduction Unit and funded by the Scottish government - was previously introduced in two schools in Inverclyde and Edinburgh.
