See Me pack
PSE
The “See Me” campaign, which encourages young people to tackle the stigma of mental health, has been endorsed by television presenter Gok Wan, Scots singer-songwriter Rachel Sermanni, and actor Greg McHugh, who plays Gary McLintoch in BBC sitcom Gary: Tank Commander. See Me is providing all secondary schools in Scotland with a “What’s on your mind?” multi-media resource pack for teachers.

May workshops
Spanish
The Spanish Consejeria de Educacion in Scotland, together with the University of Dundee and Scottish Association for Language Teaching, have put together a variety of Spanish workshops in Scotland for 2012. They will be tailored for primary teachers as well as secondary, higher and further education practitioners, and held in Dundee on 12 May.

pound;1.8m for CPD
Science
The Scottish government is investing pound;1.8 million over three years in professional development for school science education. The announcement follows the publication last month of a report by the Science and Engineering Education Advisory Group, which called for enhanced CPD and resources. The funding will enable the Scottish Schools Education Research Centre to continue its national programme of CPD for teachers and technicians.
Hugo event
Media education
The Association for Media Education in Scotland is hosting a conference entitled “Teaching Hugo” on 12 May in Edinburgh. It will include a screening of Martin Scorsese’s Hugo 3D, based on Brian Salznick’s book, The Invention of Hugo Cabret. There will also be presentations showing how the film and source book can be used as a stimulus for teaching and learning in CfE, as well as SQA national qualifications. All files used during the day will be provided in digital format.
