Btec Students Get Level 2 Results

More than 230,000 Btec students receive their results today - 200,000 of them in schools. Their grades allow them to take the next step in their careers, and are handed out on the same day as GCSEs and other level 2 qualifications, only a couple of days after level 3 students found out their grades.

Today’s results day comes as many Btecs face the axe as part of the government’s reform of level 3 qualifications, which will position A levels, the new T levels and apprenticeships as the main routes.

According to awarding body Pearson, Btecs are high-quality, future-focused qualifications that provide learners with the knowledge, skills and behaviours they need to progress. Those receiving results today include thousands of future healthcare professionals, engineers and construction workers.

This year:

  • 46,150 students will have completed a level 2 Btec in health and social care
  • 23,900 in IT and computing
  • 16,560 in engineering or construction
  • 3,950 in applied science.

Cindy Rampersaud, senior vice president of Btec and apprenticeships, said: “I’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to every teacher, tutor, lecturer, school and college leader and parent for the incredible effort they have made to support students achieving the grades they have worked so hard for this year.

“These students have come through another extraordinary year with the qualifications, skills and experience to prepare them for the next stage of their journey, be it into further study, an apprenticeship or into the world of work; providing the choice to progress to university later on as well; setting them up to follow their aspirations and succeed in their future careers and life. Congratulations to the class of 2021! We wish each and every one of you all the very best in your next steps.”

Education secretary Gavin Williamson said: “Students should feel proud of their achievements and will now be looking forward to taking their next steps. I am also hugely grateful to teachers and school leaders for their hard work to ensure students get the grades they deserve and need to progress to the next stage of their lives.”
