Salsabeel Elmegri has been elected as NUS vice-president further education at the NUS student union’s national conference.
Ms Elmergi is currently vice-president for education and welfare at Bradford College Student Union.

In a video posted on her Twitter feed leading up to the election, she said: “I am the VP of my students’ union and it wasn’t easy: fighting to make spaces accessible, protecting the rights and liberties of all our communities and constantly having to prove myself as a Muslim woman.

“I showed them that this woman is undeterred, unafraid, unapologetic, standing to be your next vice-president further education.”
Current NUS president Zamzam Ibrahim publicly backed Ms Elmergi. The NUS also announced today that Larissa Kennedy will take over from Ms Irabhim as the new NUS president.
Both of them will take up their roles in the summer.
