I saw this activity on Twitter for Romeo and Juliet and just HAD to adapt it for Macbeth.

Working on themes, quotes, analysis and connections within the play.

This activity can be done as revision, extended starter, plenary or homework - would also work nicely as a group task.

It works on all AO’s for their exam.

In this lesson I have used a Stuart Pryke’s ‘How to teach Macbeth’ and combined it with a worksheet found on TES.

This lesson looks at the character of Lady Macbeth who has been MIA since A3, exploring how we feel about her now that she is not such a main character, that Macbeth is becoming more ruthless on his own and making predictions for her future in the play.

We then move to her referring to past events in the play and the significance of that, I do this by asking students to put themselves in Shakespeare’s shoes: What are his intentions here?

Finally, we look at the motif of hands in the play and apply it to quotations and analysis.

Hope this helps :)

Revisit and practise creative writing skills by putting students in the driving seat!

Students were tasked with taking their own image around the college to use for their LP1 Q5, we then created a revision poster, watched the AQA YouTube video, examined the student’s response and then applied this to their own image.

Enjoy!

In this lesson I worked on how to expand analysis with my students through keywords and connotations. This lovely poem has many layers and once they start using the ‘5 Steps to success’ guides they were able to demonstrate great understanding and fantastic analysis.

This lesson comes after 2 lessons on Mary Shelley, The Enlightenment Era and social context of the time period.

Students should have a brief understanding of the plot before being introduced to Chapter 5 (Frankenstein’s creation).

In this lesson I aim to slowly encourage language analysis before writing a successful paragraph. I used this with my mixed ability class and completed it in 2 lessons.

Enjoy - please leave a review :)

I use this in most lessons with low-mid ability students that struggle to organise their ideas.

It can be used independently or for group work and once they feel confident enough with how to incorporate all elements of a successful answer, they begin to formulate their own style to respond to questions.

Macbeth may have blood on his hands, but is he completely to blame for King Duncan’s untimely demise?

I have compiled a lesson that creates a class courtroom where students must complete a legal report after researching the play, quotes, context etc ready to argue for or against Macbeth’s sentence.

I cannot take credit for all of this, hence why it is free, I have left links to where I found some resources, or links I used for inspiration. (https://sites.google.com/site/ocaptainmycaptaincarpediem/macbeth-on-trial)
I couldn’t upload my Word documents which include some research guidance for students, including a newspaper article I made, but there are images of all resources used on the PPT.

My students had a Prosecution and Defence team, they got dressed up and I had a STL come in to listen to the debate and decide the winner.

I hope your students enjoy it as much as mine did!

This is used to help stretch and challenge all abilities in the classroom.

Taking students step-by-step through detailed analysis.

I have used this with Grade 3/4 learners to show what is required to get them safely into a successful Grade - I think the visual really puts it into perspective for them.

This is not my original idea, but I have added my own spin to it and would love others to get as much success from it as I have.

I am currently a tutor in FE and working with students who are struggling to get from a Grade 3 to a Grade 4.

I have used this lesson to recap and revise the necessary skills to succeed in Q1 and 2. I did this for an hour before giving a past paper and asking students to complete the questions revised; doing this allowed students to feel more confident in their ability. It was also successful in isolating skills and timings for learners.

Hope this is helpful :)
