This is a fun, engaging, creative and non-threatening intervention which is great for students to explore calm down strategies. Sandwich ingredients represent the various strategies to support the student to calm down. The following strategies are included: bounding on a ball, playing with play-doh, counting to 10, writing down thoughts, listening to music, stretching, quiet time, drawing, reading, going for a walk, meditation, hugging a favourite toy, having a drink and thinking happy thoughts. There are blank copies of the ingredients for students to write down some calming strategies that they like to use. Laminate and use white board markers for students to write their own calm-down strategies to create their own unique calm down sandwich. This is great for a lunch time individual or group therapy intervention. This is a fun, engaging, creative and non-threatening intervention which is great for students to explore self care strategies. Sandwich ingredients represent the various strategies to support the student to use self-care strategies. The following strategies are included: cuddling a pet, exercise, deep breathing or meditation, journaling, listen to music, have a sleep, visualisation, reading, drawing, listening to nature, get some fresh air, sing to your favourite music, have a nice drink, nice bath or shower. Laminate and use white board markers for students to write their own Self Care strategies to create their own unique “Self Care” sandwich. The cards come in different level of difficulties from easy to hard and include a variety of subtle and distinguished nuances. The visuals include everyday objects, colours, animals, feelings and emotions, food items, weather, daily routine and shapes. The direction on each of the cards includes a written direction as well as a visual to represent same or different for non-readers. Students can use clothes pegs to identify the right answer or simply point to the right answer. This is a great card game to help introduce and reinforce learning about coping and calming strategies. These are a great way to start or finish a group session! HOW TO PLAY 1.Simply pass out the cards to all the players individually. 2.Encourage everyone to sit in a circle. 3.Pick one player to go first. 4.They are to read one of their cards. For example “I have Breathing. Who has Exercise?” 5.The next person who has the Exercise card reads their card and so forth. 6.Play continues until all of the cards are read. 7.If you want to make this more challenging, you can time the game and see if you can break your own record!
