GCSE Photography checklist

GCSE Photography checklist

(1)
This checklist lists all of the tasks that I expect all students to complete for a GCSE Photography project. It is colour coded linked to the AOs, features clear success criteria for each task, and offers a 'going for gold' extension to push the higher ability students. A really good resource for encouraging students to work independently, as well as for reference when structuring their projects.

GCSE project overview - Architecture

(1)
This has been a really successful scheme of work. Students engaged with it really well, with a variety of painting, printmaking and mixed media work linking to artists such as Ian Murphy and Paul Kenton. We ran a trip to a local English Heritage venue which I'd recommend for photography and drawing - they're generally free if you lead them yourself! The SOW is broken down by week, giving tasks linked to AOs, Skills focus and extensions for HPA.
Personal Investigation essay guidance - art/photography

Personal Investigation essay guidance - art/photography

(1)
I wrote this for my A-level students as they needed something to help them write their essays for the personal investigation. It breaks down the essay into different subheadings, each with a guide on how many words to write and then a list of prompt questions to help with writing. There is also a guide to the required bibliography, and a final checklist. This version is written for photography students, but could be quickly altered for art/textiles etc.
Photography: slow shutter speed portraits

Photography: slow shutter speed portraits

(2)
This worksheet guides students through a slow shutter speed portrait activity with different techniques and ideas to try, with visual examples. A really good task to teach students about slow shutter speed and the potentials for using long exposures. You'll just need a dark room and some torches!
AO1 - How to analyse a photographer

AO1 - How to analyse a photographer

(2)
A clear presentation that encourages students to be analytical to support their marks in AO1 when discussing the work of a photographer. Lots of prompt questions to help them structure their written analysis and to help them take inspiration from the artist. I wrote it for A-level but have also used it with GCSE Photography students to encourage a higher standard of work.
GCSE Art SOW - Self Identity

GCSE Art SOW - Self Identity

(1)
This has been a successful project with GCSE students. The file include: - an A3 visual overview of the whole project, linked to the AOs and colour coded, laid out as a flow diagram with photos etc. - An overview of timings for each task, with links to what goes on each A1 presentation board - A student checklist with extensions to go with each task, written with keen/HPA students in mind.

Year 7/8 Product Design SOW and work book

(1)
This is a product design project based on designing trainers. The SOW details weekly tasks for a 10 week project suitable for year 7 or 8. The tasks include product analysis, product design, logo and packaging design, marketing and evaluation. Also included is the 15 page booklet which includes all worksheets and resources for the unit, including self, peer and teacher assessment boxes.

3D Art and Design: drawing for design

(1)
This powerpoint has been written for the A-level 3D Art and design course, specifically to support non art students and engineering/DT students with their understanding of the art process of looking at primary sources for inspiration. I delivered the lesson at the start of the design process to help students link to primary sources in their observational drawing. Within the powerpoint are a range of visual examples that should help students see how drawing and photographs can be done purposefully to help the design and making process. I found it really clarified students understanding of AO3 (AQA).

GCSE Photography Exam - project overview and student checklist

(0)
There are two documents here - two different versions of the same thing, one more detailed than the other - both student friendly. One is an overview of the photography exam project structure, organised by lesson and task. It features brief information about each task, with details on things to consider and 'going for gold' extensions, aimed at the higher end students. The other document is a simplified checklist for students to track the tasks they need to complete for the exam project, encouraging them to work independently and outside of lessons.

A full lesson plan with introduction to fast shutter speed, practical task, review and comparison to slow shutter speed. This lesson follows my slow shutter speed lesson which is also available.
Guidance on visual mindmaps (art and photography)

Guidance on visual mindmaps (art and photography)

(0)
A simple resource that supports students when mindmapping in art or photography. It breaks down the mindmap visually, giving prompts on what to include in order for a mindmap to be purposeful. Can be used as a slide on the board or printed as a colourful worksheet.
David Bailey portrait photography task

David Bailey portrait photography task

Written to follow a David Bailey lesson, this worksheet gives students tips for lighting portraits and ideas for facial expressions, then lists the things to think about during a practical photography lesson when taking photos in the style of the photographer.
Tricky art student survival guide!

Tricky art student survival guide!

I made this for one particular student who had a very irritating habit of throwing her work away! It worked so well during the mock and GCSE exams, and she felt a bit special as I only gave it to her. Basically some silly quotes to refocus her, and doodle pages.
