This powerpoint was written for my year 11 students who are doing a project on Distortion. After looking at the work of Suzanne Saroff, I wanted students to complete a photoshoot of a single glass, demonstrating how you can get a real variety of photos documenting distortion with a little creativity. Each slide includes examples of photos and key tips for success!

10 challenges written to be suitable for both GCSE and A-level photography students. Each with a focus on developing a specific skill, and written to be engaging and accessible from anywhere including from home if needed. Skills include composition, lighting, contrasting colours, viewpoints and shutter speed. They are written to be a open to interpretation, meaning that students of all abilities should be able to have some fun with the challenges.

This powerpoint has been written for the A-level 3D Art and design course, specifically to support non art students and engineering/DT students with their understanding of the art process of looking at primary sources for inspiration. I delivered the lesson at the start of the design process to help students link to primary sources in their observational drawing. Within the powerpoint are a range of visual examples that should help students see how drawing and photographs can be done purposefully to help the design and making process. I found it really clarified students understanding of AO3 (AQA).

This is a document that I’ve put together to clarify for my students what is involved in a project and the process that they will go through when designing and making a product or sculpture on the AQA 3D Art and Design A-level course. I have also broken down the assessment criteria into a series of questions to help them understand the requirements for each assessment objective. Students who had not previously completed an art course and/or who had previously completed DT/engineering found this particularly useful!

This resource includes all lessons for a short project on lighting inspired initially by Cornelia Parker and Tom Raffield. There are 50 slides, covering an introduction to the project and the artists, mood board and design pages, observational drawing prototyping, presentation and evaluation. It was written as a skills development project for new year 12 students on the AQA 3D Art and Design course, and assessment objectives are referenced throughout. The tasks use primarily paper, wire and card but could be adapted if you wanted to use other materials. There are printable worksheets, flipped learning opportunities and lots of examples of ideas for students to help them along the way. My group engaged with this project really effectively,

There are two documents here - two different versions of the same thing, one more detailed than the other - both student friendly. One is an overview of the photography exam project structure, organised by lesson and task. It features brief information about each task, with details on things to consider and 'going for gold' extensions, aimed at the higher end students. The other document is a simplified checklist for students to track the tasks they need to complete for the exam project, encouraging them to work independently and outside of lessons.

These cards have been created to support students with composition in photography. They were written for year 10 as an introduction to the skill of using different compositions such as negative space, rule of thirds, leading lines etc. and will be a useful reference for year 11 as a visual reminder. There are 6 A4 colourful cards ready to be laminated, each for a different type of composition with clear tips, diagrams and photos for reference.

This has been a really successful scheme of work. Students engaged with it really well, with a variety of painting, printmaking and mixed media work linking to artists such as Ian Murphy and Paul Kenton. We ran a trip to a local English Heritage venue which I'd recommend for photography and drawing - they're generally free if you lead them yourself! The SOW is broken down by week, giving tasks linked to AOs, Skills focus and extensions for HPA.

This lesson worked really well with year 9, engaging them during the pattern drawing element of the task, and then teaching them some basic photoshop skills as a follow up lesson (using the worksheet). Students design a pattern page, you then need to scan their drawings ready for the following photoshop lesson where they add colour and further patterns. One tip - get students to press fairly hard in pencil or go over designs in pen so the scanner can see them clearly!

This SOW has been written to get year 9 students excited about art by exploring urban artists and techniques. The SOW has been written to be student friendly, with an A3 flow diagram with images and colour coded to explain the project, with links to GCSE criteria to get students into the habit of working in a similar way to KS4.

This PowerPoint was written for a KS3 transition session with a group of SEN students but would be suitable for all groups. The topic is alternative drawing, and there are a range of short drawing tasks that focus on being creative rather than perfect or accurate in order to build confidence.

A student friendly SOW based on insects, with an A3 visual flow diagram to demonstrate the project overview with links to AOs as well as a task overview.

This resources is a double sided A3 learning mat which breaks down the AOs for students, highlighting what they need to do to be successful in each area. A particularly good resource for encouraging students to push for higher grades. Colourful, clear and student friendly, my classes have responded well to this resource and found it useful!

This is a product design project based on designing trainers. The SOW details weekly tasks for a 10 week project suitable for year 7 or 8. The tasks include product analysis, product design, logo and packaging design, marketing and evaluation. Also included is the 15 page booklet which includes all worksheets and resources for the unit, including self, peer and teacher assessment boxes.

This worksheet guides students through a slow shutter speed portrait activity with different techniques and ideas to try, with visual examples. A really good task to teach students about slow shutter speed and the potentials for using long exposures. You'll just need a dark room and some torches!
