This PowerPoint is for the essay "Discuss two biological explanations for anorexia". Each slides represents a paragraph of the essay and has the full model essay slide by slide. The pictures are to help you remember each point and there are some memory pegs.
There is an activity for students to complete to help them remember the essay and at the end of the PowerPoint is a Memory Story.
A2 Eating Behaviour. PowerPoint to cover the full exam question 'Discuss two or more neural mechanisms in controlling eating behaviour' (24 marks). A model essay is in the 'notes' section (beneath each slide) paragraph by paragraph.
YouTube videos are embedded into some of the pictures, either hover the pictures in Slide Show format, or look for the link in the 'notes' section. The videos are there to help consolidate your learning.
This handy revisoin timetable (Gannt Chart format) allows students to plan their own revision timetable from now until the exams in May 2019.
Print onto A3 paper (single sided).
The dates are split into Monday-Thursday and Friday-Sunday. They can then check every Monday and Friday to see what topics they will be revision over the next few days.
They decide what when they will revise each topic from the specification, however, I have put them in the order that I recommend they start (eg starting with research methods which can come into any section.)
Planning the revision could be done as a directed study task, or completed during tutorial time with help from the teacher.
They should put their Gannt Chart up on a notice board (or bedroom wall) where they can easily check it every Monday and Friday to stay on track.
I use narrow margins, so if the formatting is out, try making the margins narrow or contact me on this website if you need any further help. You can also tweet me: @blonde_pretzel.

Aimed at anyone who has experienced being love-bombed followed by being ghosted (or dumped for no reason).
It uses Ainsworth’s ‘Insecure-Resistant’ attachment type to give a possible explanation.
It uses the Strange Situation research and is applicable for those studying A Level Psychology, The attachment Unit, but doesn’t include any evaluation.
I am making another video and resource specifically on the Strange Situation for A Level Psychology, which is better for students of psychology.
These resources accompany a video on The Cognitive Interview Experiment which is free to watch on YouTube. Click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SRYruoXquU
The video is the fictional tale of a Field Experiment on the Cognitive Interview that has creepy repercussions, however, the details of the Cognitive Interview and Geiselman et al’s (1985) experiment are included as are many research methods and biopsychology (the SAM in particular). It is part teaching, part revision.
Research Methods that are covered include:
IV & DV, Hypothesis Writing, Experimental Design, Validity, Demand Characteristics, Prior General Consent and Presumptive Consent.
The PowerPoint contains the slides used within the video.
M18: The script that accompanies the video
M18a: Questions on the Cognitive Interview, Demand Characteristics, Experimental Design, Dealing with lack of Informed Consent (ethics) and Geiselman et al’s (1985) experiment on the Cognitive Interview.
M18b: The Questions with model answers
Please note, on all word documents I select ‘narrow margins’. Please ensure you have narrow margins selected to ensure correct formatting. Please contact me if you have any issues with the resources you download and i’ll be happy to help.

A handy front sheet with formulas for Percentage Increase and Decrease AND a writing template for interpreting Descriptive Statistics (Measures of Central Tendency and Measures of Dispersion).
Designed as a practice and assessment activity that I give to my students as homework.
The mark scheme allows for quick and easy peer marking. I often get everyone to swap and spend about 10 minutes at the beginning of a lesson marking them.
If you have any questions, please do get in touch either on this website or via Twitter: @blonde_pretzel or on YouTube 'Psychology Students.

Teaching and assessment materials for AS and A level students in psychology.
The PowerPoint accompanies the teaching video I made on Experimental Methods in Psychology which is available on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OnL5tm0cmk
RM67: This is the assessment handouts on experimental methods and IV and DV. The students should watch the video and pause it as they go along to answer the questions.
RM67a: This handouts has the questions AND answers for easy marking during the beginning of a lesson.
I create resources using Word with the margins set to ‘narrow’. If you have any issues with the format of the handouts, please get in touch either here or on twitter and i’ll email you them again.
It’s for A level Psychology students/teachers following the new specification from 2015.
If you have any questions about the resources or video, please tweet me @blonde_pretzel
This resource goes into more depth about parametric statistical tests. If you are looking to teach Inferential Statistics for A level, please see my other resource: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/inferential-statistics-for-a-level-psychology-12029946
This resource explains about parametric test assumptions including normal distributions, variances and levels of measurement. This is probably more useful for 1st year degree level where they will need more information about choosing parametric tests. (For A level, students are not required to calculate variances etc)
01 PowerPoint for teachers (or students) of A level psychology on parametric tests (when to use each one). Includes activities throughout and any questions on the slides will have the answers in the notes section.
02 Is a handy choosing tree to quickly identify which statistical test to use (for parametric and non-parametric tests) and can be displayed in the classroom
02a is the choosing tree with blanks so you can easily and quickly test your students
03 Is a test on which statistical test to use. The test gives a hypothesis and experimental design and then requires students to identify the level of measurement, whether it’s a parametric or non-parametric test, which test to use and the reasons why. It could be used as a test at the beginning of the next lesson. Probably about 15 minutes due to the reading required.
03a The answers to the test (I get students to swap their tests and mark each others in the classroom, saves time on marking)
04 A poster on the assumptions of parametric tests for the classroom
Please note, on all word documents I select ‘narrow margins’. Please ensure you have narrow margins selected to ensure correct formatting.

Most A Level psychology text books have 'Can You' or 'Check It' type questions on each page. These are exam style questions that help you assess your knowledge.
I have written answers to typical 'Can You' questions for the Memory Unit of A Level Psychology.
If you're a student, try the questions and then check against the model answers.
If you're a teacher, you could set the questions for homework and then perhaps get them to do peer marking using the answers as a marking template.
Each file attached is split into a different topic from the memory unit and has A01 (describe), A02 (apply) and A03 evaluate questions. There are full 16 markers for each topic in the unit.
CYM01 - capacity, duration and coding in Short and Long Term Memory
CYM02 - Multi-store model of memory
CYM03 - Working Model of Memory
CYM04 - Types of Long Term Memory
CYM05 - Explanations of Forgetting: interference
CYM06 - Explanations of Forgetting: retrieval failure
CYM07 - Accuracy of Eyewitness testimony: misleading information
CYM08 - Accuracy of Eyewitness testimony: anxiety
CYM09 - Accuracy of Eyewitness testimony: the cognitive interview
If you have any problems with the materials, please tweet me: @blonde_pretzel
I have a YouTube channel that provides teaching and revision for Year1 and Year 2 A Level psychology: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCz5zDmqyZg1mULhgXG96fow
Many thanks for using my resources :-)
This resource is for Year 1 and Year 2 Psychology A Level students. It would also suit any subject that needs to know how to identify, calculate and interpret Measures of Central Tendency and Measures of Dispersion.
This resource has the following handouts:
A teaching video on Descriptive Statistics
A PowerPoint to accompany the teaching video on Descriptive Statistics
02 Questions on research methods including descriptive statistics (34 marks) (and design a study for Year 2 students - 54 marks)
02a Mark scheme for the above
The questions include:
IV & DV
Hypothesis selection
Experimental Design
Counterbalancing
Sampling techniques (and advantages)
Calculation of mean, median and mode
The advantages and disadvantages of the mean, median and mode
Interpretation of a means and standard deviation
For Year 2:
Identification and justification of inferential statistics test
Design a study (observation) for 12 marks.
The stimulus for the assessment questions is based on the concentric star experiment performed by HM. I’m sure you’re familiar with this experiment, but just in case you’re not… HM had his hippocampus removed to cure his epilepsy, however, it destroyed his ability to form new episodic and semantic memories. He performed an experiment where he was required to draw between the lines of concentric stars using only his reflection in a mirror (a tricky task). He got better at the task despite not remembering having ever done it. It provided evidence for a third type of long term memory - procedural, often referred to as ‘muscle memory’.
I usually use narrow margins for my Word documents, so if the formatting seems a bit out, then change the margins to narrow. If you have any problems with the resources, please contact me on Twitter @blonde_pretzel or via my YouTube channel called Psychology Students.
Thank you.
This is the 4th set of unofficial exam papers for the Research Methods Section of AS Level Psychology.
There is a stimulus (the same stimulus as the 3rd set unofficial exam paper) and questions (24 marks) for students to answer. Because it’s AS level I have only put 24 marks worth of questions. I am currently making unofficial exam papers for A level that have 48 marks.
I have a created a video to help students ‘de-code’ the stimulus looking for ‘clues’ to help them answer the questions.
This paper tests:
Experimental Method
Sampling technique
Operationalisation
Independent variable
Random allocation as a control measure
Pilot Study
Measures of Central Tendency (strengths and limitations of the median)
Bar chart
Peer Review
Validity
There is a mark scheme for ease of marking, and/or peer marking.
As in the real AQA exam, students should be given 30 minutes to complete the paper.
If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch either on this website, or via twitter: @blonde_preztel.
These short answer tests are designed to test a student’s knowledge of the wording and content of the specification for different units.
They should therefore help students understand the possible wording of the questions on the exam paper.
They will also highlight any areas they should focus on for revision.
The mark schemes allow for quick peer marking.
I use them at the beginning of a revision session on a particular unit so students know where to focus their revision.
Thanks for looking at my resources.
I have created a set of unofficial exam papers for the Research Methods section of the exam.
They follow the format of the real exams, i.e. have a stimulus and all the questions are based on the stimulus.
This is the second set. I has the same stimulus as the first set, but tests::
Experimental Method
Experimental Design
Hypothesis direction
Operationalised Dependent Variable
Control Measure: Counterbalancing
Testing for Significance using a critical values table
Assessing reliability of data
Calculating a %
Significant figures
Informed consent
The paper has 24 marks and should be allocated 30 minutes to complete in exam conditions as per the real exam.
If you have any problems or questions about the resource please contact me on this website or twitter: @blonde_pretzel or YouTube: Psychology Students.
The mark scheme is comprehensive and allows for easy marking and peer marking.
Thanks for looking at my resource.
A video, PowerPoint and short answer test for the last part of the Social influence unit for A level psychology.
The short answer test gives ‘retrieval’ questions (they should watch the video first).
