I have made a set of unofficial exam papers for the Research Methods section of the exam. This is the 1st set. I have made a video to accompany this exam paper showing students how to ‘decode’ the stimulus. The stimulus for this paper is an experiment testing the difference in mood between teachers who play on dance mats for 30 minutes a day for 2 weeks and those that don’t. The exam paper tests: Sampling Limitation of a volunteer sample Hypothesis Direction Hypothesis Writing Pilot Study Control of Extraneous Variables Interpretation of descriptive statistics Justification of a Mann Whitney test Testing for Significance using Critical Values Tables Peer Review Limitation of Peer Review Type 1 Error Aims of a Debrief Design a study (12 marks) Please note that the design a study for this first set is designed to be very much like the stimulus. In the other unofficial exam papers I have written, the design a study sections are a different research method to the one in the stimulus, however, because this is the first set, this one is slightly easier in that it is asking the students to design a study similar to the original, but on students. It does have elements they will need to consider carefully, like how to ensure each participant acts as their control, which obviously has implications for the experimental design they will choose). The mark scheme is comprehensive and should allow for peer marking. It includes a model answer for the 12 mark design a study question. I have made a short video to help guide students on how to read the stimulus and make ‘clues’ which will help them answer the questions in the exam paper. There is a stimulus (the same stimulus as the 4th set unofficial exam paper) and questions (24 marks) for students to answer. Because it’s AS level I have only put 24 marks worth of questions. This is the 4th set of unofficial exam papers for the Research Methods Section of AS Level Psychology. There is a stimulus (the same stimulus as the 3rd set unofficial exam paper) and questions (24 marks) for students to answer. Because it’s AS level I have only put 24 marks worth of questions. I am currently making unofficial exam papers for A level that have 48 marks. I have a created a video to help students ‘de-code’ the stimulus looking for ‘clues’ to help them answer the questions. A handy front sheet with formulas for Percentage Increase and Decrease AND a writing template for interpreting Descriptive Statistics (Measures of Central Tendency and Measures of Dispersion). Designed as a practice and assessment activity that I give to my students as homework. The mark scheme allows for quick and easy peer marking. Revision Timetable (Gannt Chart) for AS Psychology May 2019 Exams (AQA)

This handy revisoin timetable (Gannt Chart format) allows students to plan their own revision timetable from now until the exams in May 2019. Print onto A3 paper (single sided). The dates are split into Monday-Thursday and Friday-Sunday. They can then check every Monday and Friday to see what topics they will be revision over the next few days. They decide what when they will revise each topic from the specification, however, I have put them in the order that I recommend they start (eg starting with research methods which can come into any section.) Planning the revision could be done as a directed study task, or completed during tutorial time with help from the teacher. They should put their Gannt Chart up on a notice board (or bedroom wall) where they can easily check it every Monday and Friday to stay on track. The PowerPoint is designed to be taught during lesson time and should take between 3-4 hours. This resource is for Year 1 and Year 2 Psychology A Level students. It would also suit any subject that needs to know how to identify, calculate and interpret Measures of Central Tendency and Measures of Dispersion. This resource has the following handouts: A teaching video on Descriptive Statistics A PowerPoint to accompany the teaching video on Descriptive Statistics 02 Questions on research methods including descriptive statistics (34 marks) (and design a study for Year 2 students - 54 marks) 02a Mark scheme for the above The questions include: IV & DV Hypothesis selection Experimental Design Counterbalancing Sampling techniques (and advantages) Calculation of mean, median and mode The advantages and disadvantages of the mean, median and mode Interpretation of a means and standard deviation For Year 2: Identification and justification of inferential statistics test Design a study (observation) for 12 marks. The stimulus for the assessment questions is based on the concentric star experiment performed by HM. I’m sure you’re familiar with this experiment, but just in case you’re not… HM had his hippocampus removed to cure his epilepsy, however, it destroyed his ability to form new episodic and semantic memories. He performed an experiment where he was required to draw between the lines of concentric stars using only his reflection in a mirror (a tricky task). He got better at the task despite not remembering having ever done it. It provided evidence for a third type of long term memory - procedural, often referred to as ‘muscle memory’.
