Starter task is a ‘Blast from the past’, an activity to help recall content from the AQA specification and previous learning. Learning objectives and learning Outcomes are provided along with skills that should be covered within the lessons. Assessment is provided along with what to do with that assessment after. Finally, the lesson is finished with a ‘Show of your skills’.

You can use these images as cards to print off and then students arrange into different stages of classification. Start with the Kingdoms. Then select the Animals. Organise animals into vertebrates and invertebrates. Select vertebrates. Organise vertebrates to mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, amphibians. Select mammals. Ask them to organise cats and not cats. You can then talk about individual species.

This lesson has been designed as cover (especially for non specialist teaching), but can also be used for a normal lesson if needed. The lesson has a link to a video and a slide of information with a blockbuster style task for the class to use. No printing required, but you could print the information off. Answers included. There is a plenary activity for the end of the lesson.
