Santa’s Evil Twin is an original Conkers Creative story about Santa’s twin hypnotising the elves in the workshop to ruin Christmas for everyone. The story is a conquering the monster tale that follows the generic story plot used in Pie Corbett’s Talk for Writing. The story is suitable for LKS2 but could be edited for UKS2 or KS1. The story is longer than the intended length for a Talk for Writing text but contains many examples of LKS2 grammar, including direct speech, subordinate clauses, and adverbs. Please enjoy this story for free, and Merry Christmas!

Mum's Magic Milkshakes - a short story about eating fruit

(0)
Mikey doesn’t like fruit and will not eat it, no matter how hard his mum tries. One day, she gets rid of all the fruit and hands him a tasty milkshake. Mikey loves the milkshake, not knowing there’s a special secret ingredient inside! Mum’s Magic Milkshakes is a short story for EYFS/KS1 about encouraging children to try fruit, and to introduce them to a different way to get their 5 a day. The story is 357 words long and has a repetitive structure suited to Talk for Writing or other English lessons. It could also be used for a PSHE lesson on healthy eating or trying new things. A Conkers Creative original story, available in Word and PDF format. Feel free to remove the watermark and header from Word, but please consider returning to my TES shop and writing a review. Thank you!

Finding Tale - Short Story - Ben and the Stolen Diamond - LKS2

(1)
Ben and the Stolen Diamond is a short story I wrote for my year 4 class’s Talk 4 Writing unit on finding tales. We used the story for reading lessons, vocabulary work and a basis for shared writing. We also created story maps and internalised this as a model text. The story follows the generic plot of a finding tale based on Pie Corbett’s research into teaching writing. The story would be suitable for year 3 or 4 as it covers the grammar points for LKS2. In particular, there is a focus on fronted adverbials and expanded noun phrases. There are also adverbs and an example of direct speech. This resource pack includes a PDF and a Word version so that you can adjust the story to fit your class’s needs. This resource complements the newspaper article on Ben and the Stolen Diamond which can be used for non-fiction teaching.

Newspaper Article - Non-Fiction Model Text - LKS2

I wrote this newspaper article as a non-fiction complement to our Talk 4 Writing unit based on Ben and the Stolen Diamond. I used it in my year 4 class as an example text. We discussed the features of newspapers, looked at vocabulary and structure, then used it to assist with shared and independent writing. This resource would be suitable for a year 3 or 4 class but could be adapted for UKS2. The original document included the name of my school and some staff members, but has been edited so it is generic. I have uploaded a PDF and Word version of the document so that the article can be edited to include your school’s name.
