Scale Drawings / Scale Factors

(1)
KS2 (Year 5 / Year 6 - Y5 and Y6) Scale Drawings Maths Game: An engaging and differentiated game to consolidate understanding of scale drawing / scale factors in a fun way. It’s also an enjoyable way of practising times tables (if using the standard version) or decimal multiplication (if using the Challenge version). The children act as engineers, working their way around the board using scale drawings (24 cards included) and throwing a counter onto a target to discover which scale - in ratio notation - to apply each time, once they have made a measurement of the drawing. Teaching Notes and Pupil Instruction Card included. Differentiation: Alongside the standard version there’s a Challenge Version for older/more able learners that requires pupils to deal with decimal lengths (a second set of 24 cards included) and to convert between cm, m and km, using a separate scale target board when scaling up. I recommend blowing the gameboards up to A3 for use with bigger groups although A4 would be fine. I suggest printing the cards on different coloured paper to help keep sets separate, especially if using both versions with different groups. The Scale Target boards are colourful so black and white versions are included should you prefer. I hope your pupils enjoy playing it. If you can spare a moment I would be grateful for a review. Many thanks. Place Value and Rounding Worksheets

2 Resources
Fun KS2 number sense maths puzzles worksheets - these fun printable independent activities are great for revision, early finishers challenges, starter tasks, home work and home learning, especially in the first few weeks at the start of the year. This place value and rounding fun puzzles worksheets BUNDLE was originally designed for Year 4, 5 and 6 Maths / Numeracy. Includes numbers up to 5, 6 and 7 digits and rounding to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, whole number, 1 decimal place, two decimal places and nearest pound or dollar. Engaging alternative to standard worksheets; ideal for differentation. 13 puzzles, full answer keys, PDF format. The place value puzzles are crossnumber puzzles: 2 for numbers up to ten thousands 2 for numbers up to hundred thousands 2 for numbers up to millions Differentiation: For each of 5, 6 and 7-digit numbers the first puzzle is for practising reading the word version and writing the digit version in the grid, while the second, more challenging puzzle for each involves adding and subtracting from large numbers (increase by 1000, take away five hundred thousand etc) Works in a similar way to a crossword puzzles but with numbers entered into the grid   The rounding puzzles are hidden word puzzles: 1 for rounding to the nearest ten 1 for rounding to the nearest hundred 1 for rounding to the nearest thousand 1 for rounding to the nearest whole number 1 for rounding to the nearest one decimal place 1 for rounding to the nearest two decimal places 1 for rounding money to the nearest pound (dollar version also included)   More about hidden word puzzles: Similar to codebreaker puzzles, with a maths-related word to be revealed after the rounding work. Each puzzle contains a grid. Within each box is a number to be rounded and a letter. Once students have rounded all the numbers, they cross out any boxes containing numbers that round to certain specified target numbers. Then they put together the letters from the remaining boxes to reveal a maths word. If the word is more simple, the letters are in random order for students to reassemble. If it is a trickier word (such as a famous mathematician), the letters are already placed in the correct order in the grid. There is a further challenge question / task at the bottom of the page linked to the hidden word.   For previews and more information, please see the 2 individual resource pages. You can get these puzzles alongside my other Place Value activities and games (large differentiated sets of self-check Place Value trails for 5, 6 and 7-digit numbers and also decimals Place Value games) in this good value bundle: KS2 Place Value Activities Bundle

Addition and Subtraction Practice

2 Resources
Basic adding and subtracting activities for KS1 (Year 1, Year 2) or Lower KS2 (Year 3, Year 4) children who require practice and revision of basic addition and subtraction (number bonds to 20, addition and subtraction within 20, doubles, near doubles etc). In this BUNDLE there are 15 puzzle worksheets and 36 self-check trails. Both are in PDF format. Both packs in this BUNDLE are also available separately:   Basic Addition and Subtraction Fluency Puzzles Worksheets Designed as fun alternatives to standard worksheets to provide variety and extra practice of addition and subtraction facts beyond Year 1, including some special educational needs contexts (SEN). Students must have basic spelling ability to uncover the 4 or 5-letter hidden words that feature in these calculation puzzles (although clues can be given, of course!). Please check the detailed preview to assess if they will meet your needs. For a full list of the puzzles please the individual resource page. These puzzles work by students looking over completed calculations, hunting for errors. Students often forget or avoid checking their work so it’s great to get them carefully checking in these puzzles! Spotting common errors may help them remember to check their own work. Each puzzle contains 21 completed calculations, with 4 or 5 deliberate errors. There is a letter printed in each box, below the calculation. Students circle all the boxes containing calculation mistakes. When they have finished, they put all the letters together from the circled boxes and rearrange the letters to spell the name of an animal. If students have assembled the correct letters but find the rearranging very challenging, you can have them work in pairs or give them clues, such as the first letter of the word or a fact about the animal. The animal printed on each puzzle is for illustration purposes and is not related to the answer. Answer Keys are located after each puzzle. You can print them for students to self-check if required. You might want to display them instead. TIP: To save printing and to use again and again, why not laminate the puzzles and have students complete them with dry-wipe markers? Alternatively, put the sheets in a dry-erase sleeve.   Adding and Subtracting within 20 Write and Wipe Cards 36 self-check write and wipe trail cards to be laminated for pupils to complete with whiteboard pens or use as worksheets with a difference. Starting at the spider and working their way around in a spiral, children write each answer in the box, creating a running total. The final answer is printed next to the web in the middle of the card so they can see if they have correctly completed it. If not, children can check to see where they have gone wrong. Separate answer keys are also included, should you require them.   YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE… Add and Subtract within 50 Write and Wipe Cards Add and Subtract 9, 10 and 11 Write and Wipe Cards Add and Subtract Multiples of 10 Write and Wipe Cards   Thank you for your interest in my resources. Place Value and Rounding Games KS2

2 Resources
Number sense dice games for KS2 Year 3, 4, 5 and 6. These maths games for place value and rounding provide differentiation and challenge. This BUNDLE features games for 4, 5, 6 and 7 digit numbers (thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands and millions) and 1, 2 and 3 decimal places (tenths, hundredths and thousandths), together with rounding to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10000, whole number, 1 decimal place, 2 decimal places and estimating the sum or difference by rounding to the nearest 10. A fun, more challenging and strategic twist on an old idea, these 36 dice games will make students think carefully about where to place digits as they practise their place value and rounding skills. As students can choose to place digits they roll in any box on any row, they will develop interesting tactics and the uncertainty will be prolonged to the final moments! Great for starters, early finishers, revision or as a fun homework task Many levels of challenge - ideal for differentiation or for use across year groups Use as printed worksheets or else laminate (or use in dry-wipe sleeves) and complete with whiteboard pens Instead of playing in pairs, you might form small groups - pairs could play against pairs instead of one-versus-one and you might appoint a checker who can adjudicate (and then swap roles for the next game). Consider enlarging to A3 for larger groups.   If you don’t have a 0-9 dice: Use 0-9 spinners (I have included black and white and colour templates for your convenience) if you wish to make some Use digit cards (basic digit cards included in the file) Use a pack of playing cards (use Aces as 1 and Jacks as 0, put aside the Kings and Queens; shuffle the pack and take one card in turn) The place value games will also work with a 1-6 dice   Instructions are printed on the boards.   For more detailed information and clear previews, please see the 2 individual resource packs included in this bundle.   Thank you very much for supporting my store.   YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE… Multiplication and Division Activities BUNDLE Maths Puzzles Worksheets HUGE BUNDLE Place Value CrossNumber Puzzles Decimal Activities KS2 BUNDLE Area and Perimeter Activities BUNDLE   Explore more at FullShelf Resources

Mental Maths Fun Starter Games KS2

6 Resources
KS2 Year 5 and Year 6 differentiated Maths warm up activities for the whole class! Printable mental maths scavenger or treasure hunt style games, with differentiation, ideal as whole class active starters or plenaries, especially in Y5 and Y6, to get students moving and working collaboratively. There are 6 hunt / relay race sets in this great value BUNDLE, each focusing on a different concept: 1. Adding and Subtracting Decimals 2. Dividing with Multiples of 10, 100, 1000 3. Multiplying 3 Numbers 4. Number Bonds to 100 / Making 100 5. Fractions of Quantities / Amounts 6. Percentages of Quantities / Amounts Each game can be played multiple times in a lesson or across several lessons as groups can use different card sets each time. Teams complete a treasure hunt-type chain of calculations, followed by a ‘Find the Target Number’ mental maths challenge, using a mixture of the four operations. In each game there are 54 double-sided cards, forming sets of 6 cards for 9 teams. A key feature is the chance to involve lower ability students in a fun whole class activity to give them a boost of confidence without it being obvious their calculations are less challenging (3 of the sets are at an easier level). Full instructions for teacher and students is included, along with solutions. Students collaborate on a treasure hunt type maths trail and when they’ve collected all 5 answers, they are given a target, which they must make using 3 given numbers. You can print and laminate the cards in batches of 3 sets, so if you don’t require them all, you needn’t print them. The cards should be printed double-sided (they’ve been laid out to facilitate this). I print by selecting the ‘2-Sided Short Edge (Top)’ option. However, if you can only print one-sided, print all the even-numbered pages, replace the paper, and print the odd-numbered pages on the back. Give each team their ‘Start’ card. Spread out all other cards, answer side up. You may wish to remove cards from any set not being used, although this is not necessary. On your signal, teams turn over their Start card and complete the calculation. Each team sends one person to collect the correct answer card, on the other side of which will be their next question and a letter to confirm which team it belongs to. Ensure teams immediately replace any cards not marked with their letter. The process continues until the team have answered all five calculations. On the other side of the final answer card will be a target number, which teams must make, using the numbers printed in boxes in the bottom right corner of 3 of their cards. Use all 3 numbers and only once each, using any of the 4 operations. The first to make their target number wins! One possible answer for each of the target challenges is printed on the solution cards.
