This is a fun Science assembly for year 2. It has 2 catchy songs (1 with youtube links). It covers, what is a plant, what plants need to grow, the different parts of the plants, the importance of a plants in the food chain and a little prayer for if you work in Catholic school too.
There are so many opportunities for fun acting and miming in this script too depending on the ability of your class.
Hopefully it saves you some time for planning your own assemblies.

I have used this resource with my year 2 group of Expected/Working At and Greater Depth/Working Above readers to introduce them to reading chapter books. The children have really enjoyed the tasks. The children call this their ‘selfie questions’ as they answer them independently after reading in pairs.
This resource contains planning for the entire book. Each session is based on 10 pages from the book. The questions cover a range of different types including retrieval, inference, prediction and clarification and each ‘selfie’ sheet has two extension tasks. This resource pack also includes my introduction lesson where the children use their prediction skills to explain what they thought the story would include, a recount of the story lesson and the summary lesson after completing the book to create their own book review.
This is a resource which could also be used with Year 3 readers as well.
This is a resource I use often with EYFS and SEND children who need support with washing their hands independently.

This resource contains a display image with appropriate vocabulary, sheets for the children to write their answer on and 10 visual prompts to be used in conjunction with concrete materials or as a quick visual question for the children to respond to. These prompts correspond to all areas of the KS1 Maths curriculum aims as well and are useful for Assessment and pinpointing misconceptions.

This resource is one that I use often on my tables to encourage and build vocabulary in the children’s independent writing.
This resource contains 15 different word mats which focus on building language and vocabulary skills based on size, shape, time, personality traits and the 5 different senses. It does not just focus on the senses as a whole but also focuses on how we can further describe them, for example separate mats for unpleasant and pleasant smells along with positive and negative emotions.
These mats are both KS1 and KS2 friendly. They also use visuals to help reinforce which sense is being described.
These can be used independently, as part of a vocabulary, SPAG or English display, as part of a lesson or as an aid for independent work.

I have always made it a point in my teaching to include famous figures from BAME/BIPOC backgrounds in all of my teaching practise. Here is a collection of 16 profiles of famous scientists who have had a profound impact on our world. I chose one of these to be displayed on my science display board every half term.
I use these profiles to help the children understand their scientific contributions and its impact to our society. I also use these profiles to interest and engage the children in our science or english lessons e.g. writing a fact file about these individuals.

This is a lesson I usually do towards the start of the year so that the children can make something that truly reflects them that we can use for the rest of the year on our All about Me display boards.
It includes the making a paper doll activity and uses inclusive language and examples throughout. This would also be a good transition activity to use in July or meeting your new class in September.

This powerpoint contains weekly spelling lists which will last the entire year for your Year 1 class. 5 spellings per week.
These spelling lists progress through the 100 Common Exception Words that your students will need to learn for year 1. My cohort is very low so they are very simple spellings and this could also be used as a homework for a Reception class as well.
