Example text demonstrating dialogue writing with direct speech based on the historical novel Street Child by Berlie Doherty, set in Victorian London.
The model text contains a conversation between Jim’s sisters, Emily and Lizzie, about the break-up of their family. Three differentiated versions of the text have been included for different ability levels.
The model text can be used as a WAGOLL to examine using the differentiated Feature Find worksheets (answers included) before children attempt their own dialogue writing based on the book.

This fascinating exemplar explanation text describes the process of honey-making by honeybees. Pupils read the model text as a WAGOLL before analysing it and looking for features of explanation writing.
