There are a series of questions based on the pdf in this resource - these are scanned pages from the GTI. You will need a blank world map for this task -I have included a selection of copyright-free world maps to choose from. The You tube video can help pupils to locate countries and gain some context about this issue. Discussion questions can follow about what pupil may feel connects many of these countries, such as unstable governments, recent or current conflicts, the presence of natural resources such as oil or ‘conflict minerals’, poor human rights abuses, etc. This task is a good introduction to the issue of international terrorism and can be used to support curricular work in this area, provide background information for extra-curricular clubs such as Model United Nations, Politics and Current Affairs Society and/ or debating. This resource can also be used for the international issues unit of both National 5 and Higher Modern Studies (SQA) or International Baccalaureate (IB) Global Politics.
