I am Head of History and a Teaching and Learning Guide at a large secondary school. I teach all Key Stages with a focus on teaching GCSE and A Level to large classes. As I am in the classroom I understand the demands being placed on teachers by new specifications and assessment criteria. Through sharing these resources I hope to help teachers acquire new resources and ideas to make the step to the new specifications a successful one.

This resource has been developed to encourage students to further interpret feedback on essays by asking them to judge the feedback in different areas i.e. depth, clarity of explanation, use of historiography etc. Students have to rank their work from Very Good to Needs Improvement and then reflect on this before their next essay. This has made marking a lot more focussed and concise. Students' feedback has been positive. It is applicable to all A Level essays but has been used for the AQA Unit 2 courses so that the Extract element can be specifically judged to relate to the separate AOs needed here and not in the essay questions. An ongoing review that can be used across Y12 and Y13. Easily adapted for Unit 1 courses.
