To encourage higher attainers there are also questions attached to events to help students to think about the wider context and links across the course. This is useful as an overview, introduction or revision and would be suitable for Y12 or Y13 sitting this course. This resource could also support numerous follow up tasks specifically geared towards your students - i.e. find examples of religious tension across the period, etc.

GCSE - The Cold War - Background Events

(1)
This lesson introduced students to the context of the Cold War by asking them to investigate 6 key events that had an impact on relationships between the countries involved in the Cold War thus allowing them to have a better understanding of why there was tension post WW2. A great intro lesson. The events are broken down into concise pieces of information with 'Thinking Points' added to help students to understand the significance of events. Students then have to concisely explain the significance in a grid, provided. Plotting the impact of these events on a graph afterwards helps students to see that relations between different countries were very complex. Appropriate for new 9-1 specifications.

AQA KS5 Revision Checklist - Question based - Unit 1D Britain and the Crisis of Monarchy, 1603-1702

(1)
This is a thorough checklist covering all of the content of the Y12 and Y13 Stuart Britain and the Crisis of Monarchy 1603-1702. The format is based on questioning students so that they have to find out the information that they need rather than providing them with a description of events. My students have responded very positively to this extra challenge. In addition there is a column for students to tick completed sections that they have revised but an additional column to say whether they are confident or not with the topic. This has been used to highlight areas of whole class revision. Can be used with Y12 and Y13 classes.

AQA KS5 History - Narrative overview for Unit 1D linear course - Intro and revision

(0)
This resource is suitable for both Y12 and Y13 classes studying Stuart Britain and the Crisis of Monarchy, 1603 - 1702. Introduction and revision suitable. As an introduction the idea behind the resource is to give students an easily accessible narrative to make them aware of the bigger picture of the course over the linear option. This introduces them to key people, events and themes that they most likely have not encountered before and therefore will increase their understanding when they encounter course content. As a revision activity they could annotate and add specific examples, links to other sections of the course or simply use as a recap. Great for helping lower attaining students access the complex issues.
