A KS1 history lesson which teaches children what an explorer is. This lesson is crucial to further lessons about significant individuals like Neil Armstrong and Amelia Earhart. To prepare children to learn about these key individuals, this lesson focusses on what an explorer is, explaining that it is someone who travels into the unknown or does something they don’t know a lot about. With this lesson the concept of a smaller world view is introduced and explicit links are made to today’s technology and how it allows us to travel the world. A KS1 history lesson which teaches children about the aftermath/effects of the Great Fire of London and what changed after the Fire. Within this lesson children will recap how the Fire started on Pudding Lane and the subsequent events that took the Fire through London. Afterwards, children will learn about what happened after the Fire. This resource is a powerpoint presentation and asks the children to act like King Charles II in understanding what changes had to be made to London. These links are made through explicit recapping of prior knowledge of London during this period so children have a coherent view on what changed and why. As well as the presentation there is a set of printable cards which children can sort into before the fire and after the fire. A KS1 history lesson which teaches children about who Samuel Pepys was, his diary and why he is so important in recounting the Great Fire of London. Samuel Pepys’ diary is a key source for historians today in knowing what happened during the Great Fire of London. Pepys was able to describe the feel of London at that time and it is crucial that children learn about him. In this session we have taken extracts of Samuel’s diary for the teacher to read to the children for them to hear first hand what Samuel wrote. Prior to this it is clearly explained to the children what a diary is and why it is important that we have Samuel’s diary today. This resource is a powerpoint presentation and gives children extracts of Samuel Pepys’ diary. Alongside the powerpoint presentation is a worksheet which children have to use to recount in simple sentences what Samuel saw. Having already learnt that the Great Fire started on Pudding Lane in lesson 2, children will know learn what happened during the Fire. This includes the Mayor going back to sleep as he thought that the Fire was small as well as people escaping into the River Thames. Within this lesson children will learn the sequence of these events and how, after several days, the fire was put out. A KS1 history lesson which teaches children about the Great Fire of London and how it started. Within this lesson children will learn how the Great Fire started on Pudding Lane in Thomas Farriner’s bakery. This lesson will ask the children to act as historical detectives and work out the clues as to why they think the bakery was the cause of the fire. Children will link their prior knowledge of London, the fact it was overcrowded and buildings were made out of wood, to draw conclusions to the start of the fire. This resource is a powerpoint presentation and gives hints/clues as to why people believed that the fire started on Pudding Lane in a fun and engaging way. Alongside the powerpoint presentation is a differentiated worksheet which children have to complete to write down what caused the fire. This worksheet is also differentiated to include colourful semantics as a word mat to help support all learners. Subtracting a number can be a difficult skill for the children to master so this resource is differentiated to meet all the children’s needs. Each skill of Subtracting 1, 10 and 100 is broken down into: Subtracting with base ten below 100. Subtracting below 100. Subtracting above 100. Subtracting crossing a 100. Focused on the challenge of the inverse operation - children having the output but not the input. This booklet asks these questions for: Subtracting 1. Subtracting 10. Subtracting 100. This resource has 19 pages worth of questions: 6 for each objective and a bonus page at the end with assessment questions on all three skills. Each page features at least 4 questions on each page (with the exception of the first page) to ensure that children have enough chance to be fluent in the skill. Since the worksheets sequence each other children can easily finish one worksheet and move onto another worksheet without any low-level disruption in the class. How I use this resource: This resource has 19 pages so prior to the lesson I would assess the children’s knowledge and print off each page accordingly. Remember that children may finish one page and want to progress onto another page. Alternatively, this resource could be used as a booklet and all the booklet could be printed for the children to work in independently as an assessment tool.
