A consolidating activity for KS3.
Two worksheets to choose from. Edit your chosen worksheet to input the first names of the children in your class.
The children can then work out the fraction and ratio of their names that fall into certain criteria.
Worksheet 1: Relies just on the first names of the children in the class, with no other knowledge required (e.g. number of vowels in the name)
Worksheet 2: Also requires research or prior knowledge of the others in the class before successfully completing the worksheet.
This worksheet can help children to discover the link between fractions and ratio.
This is a nice activity to introduce the idea of ratio, by using sequences. Suitable for KS2.
I found it useful to use pieces of card (e.g. 1 yellow for every 2 blue) to visually demonstrate beforehand (using volunteers - each holding the correct ratio) and show how to record this into a table on the whiteboard as you go, before using this resource as the main activity.
I also allowed children to use counters at their table to aid them whilst completing the worksheet, as this was very beneficial to some learners.
A pack of quick, self-initiated activities for children to practise multiplying and dividing numbers by 10, 100 and 1000.
Work includes card games and dice-generated activities.
A blank template from 10 million to thousandths allows children to understand the place value of a number and to multiply or divide it by 10, 100 and 1000 easily.
A fully resourced lesson on finding the missing digit within addition and subtraction questions. This allows children to practise inverse operations and apply written methods in a fun and interactive way.
The lesson is designed as a code breaking lesson, where children must solve the missing digit problems in order to save a class prized possession. A lesson plan, 8 differentiated worksheets, a letter from the villains for the starter and an answer sheet is included.
The questions are differentiated and cover:
- 2 digit by 2 digit addition
- 2 digit by 2 digit subtraction
- 3 digit by 3 digit addition
- 3 digit by 3 digit subtraction
- 4 digit by 4 digit addition
- 4 digit by 4 digit subtraction
- Decimal addition
- Decimal subtraction
This gives you the flexibility to choose the appropriate level for your class, or differentiate for different groups within your class by assigning each group a different villain's lock to break.
A set of worksheets to deliver the objective 'to translate a 2D shape on a grid' differentiated to cover Years 4, 5 and 6.
A paired game is also included.
The resource is given as a Word document to enable easy editing so that you can adapt the activities for your own class as appropriate. A pdf version is also included.
A fun mathematical event that links the teamwork skills and effort involved in the Olympics with mathematical concepts found in the primary curriculum. Ideal for Key Stage 2 classes (ages 7-11), but adaptable to younger children by selecting only the ‘bronze’ level (see below).
Fully resourced activities that only require a few resources that will be found in your school (e.g. plastic hoops, stopwatch, coloured cubes, etc).
In small teams, children will tackle 8 fun, maths-based tasks to earn medals and score points for their team.
Each task has three differentiated options: bronze, silver and gold. These are broadly aimed at KS1, lower KS2 and upper KS2, but are provided to give children the option of challenging themselves to earn more points for their team.
At each of the eight tasks, one team member must be chosen to compete, with the team mates giving help verbally, but without touching or pointing to the task. The result is that every child has an important role and remains engaged throughout the whole event.
The tasks are:
· Sprint and Sort (including Venn diagrams and maths vocab)
· Blind Build (communication and teamwork are vital here)
· Problem Solving (logic puzzles)
· Coordinate Treasure Hunt (reading grid references or (x,y) coordinate grids)
· Mental Calculation Workout (mental addition and problem solving)
· Tangram Timeout (a geometry based task)
· Multiple Obstacles (an obstacle race with a times tables twist)
· Code Breaker (place value knowledge will come in useful here)
This event is suitable for either a single year group class or a mixed class. Just make sure the teams are well balanced and off you go! It has been designed for 32 children to take part at a time, although this can easily be adjusted by altering team sizes.
Size of PDF: 69 pages.

Cut up and laminate the three number lines separately. Children can write the relevant numbers on the horizontal line when solving a sequencing question. This could be used for tens and units or units and tenths. Please let me know if you find it useful.
Children must race against the clock to complete their selected times table race before the time runs out to catch the Pokemon! Cut out the times table races into individual slips with a race on each for the children to select. As a guide, allow 45 seconds for the 'times tables in order' race and a minute and a half for the 'times tables out of order' and 'division facts' races.
Children can track their times tables progress by collecting a Pokemon every time a new one is learnt. Children colour in the Pokemon they collect.
The colours on the tracker (or 'Pokedex'!) represent KS1, Y3 and Y4+ progressing down the page.
Can they catch 'em all?
