A week of VIPERS related Guided Reading lessons to fill out a week looking into the song of The Greatest Showman’s A Million Dreams! My class (Year 4) loved this unit when we studied it so thought it would be nice to share with others. NOTE: you may need to access the scene from the film through a subscription series such as: Disney + for the comparison lesson. (YouTube doesn’t have the scene needed to compare)

The 9 lessons, looking into Chapters 5, 6 and 7 of The Night we Got Stuck in a Story following the VIPERS scheme suitable for Year 2/3/4. Chapter 4 of The Worst Witch (the potion test) following the VIPERS scheme suitable for Year 3/4. Each day focuses on a different letter of VIPERS and follows the chapter from the book. Lesson 3 includes an inference lesson whereby the children can watch the scene that they have read and can identify the similarities and differences between the book and the TV series.

5 lessons following the VIPERS scheme suitable for Year 3/4/5. The information text connects to Victorian Chimney sweeps which could be linked to a History topic or just for additional learning. Each day focuses on a different letter of VIPERS and follows the chapter. Answers are included for Vocabulary to allow students to self or peer assess.
