Lesson objective: To solve problems involving the relative sizes of two quantities where missing values can be found by using integer multiplication and division facts.
In this lesson, students will be introduced to ratio and proportion and it will be explained that ratio shows the relative sizes of two or more values and proportion is a part, share, or number in relation to the whole.
Through an engaging powerpoint they will first learn how ratio and proportion are used in real-life contexts and will begin to write the ratio and proportion of shaded parts of shapes/ objects. In this lesson, students will learn what scale factor is and how to find out what scale factor a shape has been enlarged by. They will learn how we use scale factor in real life contexts and will use their knowledge of factors and multiples to work out what scale factor shapes have been enlarged by. During the main teaching input through the presentation, they will relate this to a variety of different shapes as well as model aircrafts used during WW2.

In this lesson, students will work on the objectives:* recognise that shapes with the same areas can have different perimeters and vice versa and recognise when it is possible to use formulae for area of shapes*.
