A standalone lesson on the topic of “primary school” using the imperfect tense. Some knowledge of the imperfect tense is required prior to this lesson. The starter is matching up key imperfect verbs from the board to their English equivalents on the handout. Pupils could then use there verbs to write sentences about their primary school. There is then a selection of different and interesting adjectives that pupils can use to talk about their schools. There is a reading comprehension & a gap-fill. The final activity is translation into Spanish using the imperfect tense and recycling all the vocabulary from this lesson. The resources are a model for pupils to then produce their own written/oral answer to: ¿Cómo era tu escuela primaria?

This is a standalone resource for whole lesson on holidays for GCSE. The worksheet focuses on honing reading skills and technique, recycling key vocabulary and translation on this topic. There a range of complex structures: opinions, connectives, positive and negative viewpoints, constructions which work with infinitives in the present and past tenses and some set phrases and adverbs. There is also a list of 32 key infinitives to use. This will scaffold pupils well and allow them to widen their range of language easily. There are also 40 sentences to translate to practise these constructions, with suggested answers.

Three speaking board games for preparing for GCSE/IGCSE speaking exams. One has 34 speaking questions and is of medium challenge, the second has 40 questions and has more challenging questions (targeting grades 7,8.9). The third has 60 + questions in range of tenses and are more challenging to push grade 8/9 pupils. Pupils roll a dice and move around the board answering as they land on the questions. If they can give two sentences in response to the question to their partner, they can stay on the square they have moved to.

There is a clear rubric and also a list of key complex structures to try to include, which are differentiated by level (bronze, silver, gold). Pupils can be given this question and encouraged to include as many as possible in their work to enhance quality of language.
