Atomic Structure
History of the Atom
Chemical Symbols and Subatomic Particles
Isotopes and Elements
Each question sheet includes tiered questions described as recall, label, explain, apply and compare. The questions follow the reading passages and require both simple information extraction and higher level thinking skills.

Solar System Model
Included in this hands on resource:
Black and white solar system model (18 pages)
Coloured solar system model (18 pages)
Teacher instruction and answer guide (1 page)
Student instructions sheet (1 page)
The solar system model is based around the sun and the eight planets. The planets can be printed double sided. One side represents the physical appearance of the planet whilst the other side includes an empty fact file. Your students can research the planets to complete the fact file.
There is the option to print in black and white, which offers your students the opportunity to colour in the planets. However I have included a coloured version for classes which have less contact time.
There is also a student instructions sheet and a teacher instruction/answer guide.
The only equipment required:
Scissors to cut out the planets
Colours (optional if using the black and white print out)
String to connect the planets in the correct order and display them
Feel free to ask any questions before purchasing this product.

Describing Objects Cognition and Learning Task Cards
Included in this resource:
24 ‘describe’ task cards - These task cards have an image of an everyday object on them (e.g. a shoe) and three keywords associated with the object (e.g. foot, lace and walk) which the child has to avoid using to describe the object. This promotes cognitive skills and the child must think outside the box for alternative descriptive words to best describe the object, beyond the typical choices.
24 ‘link’ task cards - These task cards have three words (e.g. cold, chocolate and vanilla) on them. The child must think of the link between these three words (e.g. in this case - ice cream). These task cards encourage children to explore connections and relationships between words, in order to find a common link. They vary in difficulty to provide some differentiation.
The document is print ready and A4. I have used this resource with a wide range of age groups. I have used these cards to support children with broadening their vocabulary and their ability to apply descriptive language. I have also used this resource as a relationship builder / ice breaker to scaffold conversation with a new child to the group. I have found the cards useful both in on a 1:1 basis and in a group/class setting.
Many thanks - Science House

Mole Calculations Spin Wheel Revision Resource
This resource encompasses 12 key questions from ‘The Mole Concept’ unit. These are questions selected as they occur regularly and are classically challenging for students to answer. The resource is based around relative formula mass, moles and masses and volume and concentration calculations.
Example questions from the spin wheel resource:
What is the relative formula mass of water?
How many grams of MgO are there in 0.5 moles?
What is the concentration of 5dm3 of acid which is 10 moles?
Also included in the resource is a full answer set. There is also an instructions sheet, with helpful guidance on using the spin wheel as a revision tool, student answer sheet and a ‘tick and repeat sheet’. This encourages the student to revisit the spin wheel to revise the key questions until they reach the ‘know it’ level.
Very simple preparation: Print the sheets (set up in A4 PDF). The students can then cut out the pin wheel for themselves and push a pen or pencil through the middle for the wheel to spin around. I found clamp stands to be a useful alternative.
History of the Atomic Theory Revision Resource
This resource encompasses the five atomic models through history. Students use the spin wheel to select one of the models at random. They then must answer the three key questions on this model:
What is the atomic model called?
Which scientist proposed the atomic model?
Describe three key features of the atomic model
Once students have answered the questions, they can check their answers using the comprehensive answer sheet. They can also record if they got their answers correct on the ‘repeat and tick’ sheet. This encourages students to use the spin wheel as an ongoing revision resource, aiming to reach the ‘know it’ level.
The atomic models featured include:
John Dalton (sphere model)
J J Thompson (plum pudding model)
Ernest Rutherford (nuclear modle)
Neils Bohr (planetary model)
Erwin Schrodinger (quantum model)
Also included in the resource is an instructions sheet, with helpful guidance on using the spin wheel as a revision tool.
Very simple preparation: print the sheets (set up in A4 PDF). The students can then cut out the pin wheel for themselves and push a pen or pencil through the middle for the wheel to spin around. I found clamp stands to be a useful alternative.
