This lesson is designed as a flipped lesson (flipped pre read sheet is included)
This is mainly a practical skills lesson as the content for acceleration is covered in the pre reading. There is a practical sheet available, although there is the option for students to plan and carry out the practical themselves

Students complete the flipped learning (attached) prior to the lesson. They then arrive and complete a variety of tasks.

Plenary - Overview
Posters of information about each stage should be spread around your room. Students then use the template to determine the order of the life cycle. They are then required to answer one or both of the 6 mark questions. This takes a double lesson with me.
Students complete the pre reading prior to arriving at the lesson
Starter - Activities to label a Plasma Membrane and to recall the definition of Active Transport
Main - Activities to describe active transport, compare it to Osmosis and Diffusion and then look at exam questions
Plenary - Summarise all three transport pathways

Main - Activities looking at the structures and functions of cells. Long answer questions
Plenary - Kahoot, or you could use the long answer questions if no Kahoot.

For high ability students it starts them looking for patterns which links nicely to the second chapter - The Periodic Table (Which I also have to download)

Guides students through the structure of the atom, looking at atomic number and mass number and how to calculate these.
Worksheets start easy and then get more difficult. Final questions are to push the high ability students in your group.
