Being a military wife, I've taught at 8 different schools in the past 11 years in 4 different states! But, moving around this much has exposed me to so many valuable teaching experiences that I wouldn't change it for anything. I have taught all grades from 5 - 12, and just about every conceivable subject matter. Mostly, I've focused on teaching students with learning disabilities, which is one of the motivating factors behind my Ph.D. in Educational Psychology.

With this activity, students will practice evaluating expressions using the order of operations as they have fun coloring! Students will reveal a beautiful, colorful mandala as they simplify expressions using the order of operations and then color the picture accordingly. This activity uses only basic order of operations (no nested parentheses or brackets) and only has one problem each with exponents and distributive property. It is aimed for students who do not yet use calculators (4th - 7th) and is a fun way to review essential arithmetic skills!
