Hurricanes
Starter- What am I.
Main activity- students making factfles about hurricanes. They can use textbooks, internet etc but the information is not included. However, there is a full sheet with tasks that must be included and detail given on how to do this.
Effects and response to tropical Storms
Based on the AQA teaching plan but adapted into an actual lesson. Resources are in the teaching kit.
Hurricane Katrina
Brief introduction to what a hurricane is, then looks at Hurricane Katrina. Students map the progress of Katrina and track it and then look at the effects. Worksheets attached. The sheet referred to on the first slide is just the question on the first slide.
HIV and AIDS
Full lesson with differentiation ideas, however, needs extra resources. Looks at HIV and AIDs within geography.
Geography of disease
Looks at an introduction of the geography of disease. Worksheets are included in the powerpoint and so can be printed from this. Several different activities including mapping disease and looking at key terms. A good introduction. Have also included a glossary, not part of the lesson but can be used to put in their books for the topic.
Tropical Rainforests climate
Looks briefly at the location, then climate graphs, and different cycles (nutrient, carbon and water) in the tropical rainforest.
Management of Earthquakes
Looking at earthquake management and mitigation. Looks at a couple of different ways including earthquake proof buildings. Students can then design their own. Once designed you can also use cocktail sticks and mini marshmallows (or paper straws etc) to make them and test them but this is optional.
Effects of earthquakes
Looking at the Kobe earthquake as the example, this looks at the different effects that earthquakes can have.
Measuring Earthquakes
Briefly looks at what an earthquake is and then measuring the earthquake. Looks at the Mercalli scale.
Threats to the Biosphere
Looking at threats to the biosphere. The lesson starter is to go over information about a case study. However, I have included this information so it would be possible to do that as part of the lesson starter.
One Child Policy
Looks at what the one child policy is, information and worksheets and an optional debate among the class.

Introduction to the ideas of ageing and youthful populations and also forms a debate among the class using fox thinking tool.

An introduction to global warming. Brief introduction and then students circulate doing different activities. There are 7 activities to complete and all resources are attached. Takes 1-2 lessons.

This is a research task so they will need either printed resources or access to computers. However, it is set up for them and with criteria to meet.

Looking at scale and distance in geography. Particularly looking around maps. Activity to end where they can make a scale drawing of their own classroom.
