I create a range of resources aimed at primary aged children; most frequently upper KS2. My passion is teaching mathematics, my specialist subject area. I have two aims: To create fun resources which inspire children To create mathematicians, not robots! I believe great teaching, specifically with mathematics, should aim to teach children the underlining methods which children can apply to take initiative of their own learning! Column addition and subtraction Year 3 megabundle

4 Resources
This mega-bundle contains two Power Points; one on column addition and one on column subtraction. Both use clear visuals to give children a relational understanding of both operations. Both Power Points fully cover bridging and exchanging. They are very engaging for the children as they must defeat Dr Doom and work out secret codes on the worksheets provided which correspond to the Power Points. Finally, two Dr Doom games have been thrown in which are both editable meaning they can constantly be reused. I guarantee the children will love these!

This resource contains a PowerPoint which fully explains how to work out differences in time for 24 hour clocks. It uses a scaffolded approach starting from comparing times within the same hour to comparing times differences between hours. It contains a relevant basic skills starter session (missing number problems and using the inverse operation to solve these), two worksheets and a differentiated group activity linked to my mathematical villain, Dr Doom! This worked really well with my class and produced some super work. The children found the final activity particularly fun and the feedback they gave me was extremely positive! It has been differentiated meaning it is suitable for all learners. Please rate my resources. I welcome all feedback! Please check out my shop using the link below. Horse racing- themed challenge on perimeter, area and volume (Upper KS2 / Lower KS3)

Horse racing- themed challenge on perimeter, area and volume (Upper KS2 / Lower KS3)

(0)
This is a challenging activity where children must use their problem solving and reasoning skills to solve perimeter, area and volume questions. It worked exceptionally well with my Y5 class and the horse racing theme really inspired the children! This activity works best over a whole lesson and I like to put the children into mixed ability groups. Some of the questions are quite challenging (although it doesn’t deviate from the national curriculum in anyway) which makes it ideal for Y5 and 6 children; it could also be used in a lower KS3 setting as a fun way to recap on perimeter, area and volume. This pack includes the activity, a question sheet and a powerpoint which not only gives the correct answers but explains each step visually for the children - this makes it ideal for the children to self-assess and provide on-the-spot feedback to the whole class once the activity has been completed. I’d be grateful if you could review the resources and please see my shop for other resources: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/d_roberts1

This is a test I created which will provide information in your children's progress in these upper KS2 targets: 1. Identifying and using the passive voice 2. Modal verbs 3. Identifying and using relative clauses 4. Using apostrophes for possession and contractions 5. Using commas for various reasons 6. Using hyphens for compound adjectives 7. Using semicolons and extending sentences with semicolons and related main clauses. The test is out of 32 and is aimed to diagnose errors to aid future learning whilst also evidencing and checking children's current understanding. The test comes with a marking scheme. In this activity, children must help a Peruvian family - The Garcia’s travel to Saransk for Peru’s first game. Their job is to find the cheapest possible route. they have four possible flight options, various hotels and ways of getting to the game. Students will work in small groups and use their mathematical knowledge (number, fractions, percentages, problem solving, division, ratio etc) to find the best option for the Garcia’s. I used this in my Year 5 class and they LOVED IT! This resource comes complete with all the props (airplane tickets, hotel list etc), teacher instructions explaining the activity and a PowerPoint which shows children the correct method and mathmatically explains it. I hope your class enjoy the activity as much as mine, please leave feedback and check out my shop for similar resources!

This resource pack contains an extensive 60 slide PowerPoint on time. It starts with the basic measurements of time that the children are required to know. It moves onto provide a scaffolded approach to telling the time on 12 and 24 hour clocks. First children look at minutes, then hours before finally putting them together to tell the time. It has been split up into four distinct sections each complete with a worksheet which means it is ideal for a weeks worth of work (I based 6 lessons around these resources). A differentiated homework task has also been included. Please rate my resource and provide feedback. Check out my shop! Thanks! https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/d_roberts1
Column addition for Year 3 featuring Dr Doom!
d_roberts1d_roberts1

Column addition for Year 3 featuring Dr Doom!

(1)
This is an introduction to Column addition aimed at Year 3 (UK) or Second grade (US). It starts of with basic examples and moves to explain bridging through ten, hundred and both ten and hundred in a visual, child friendly and easy to understand way. The children will have great fun defeating my mathematics villain, Dr Doom! It has four worksheets which correspond to a code that the children use to defeat each stage of Dr Doom's plan. The PowerPoint has logical break off points meaning it's perfect to complete over multiple sessions. I have tried to provide children with a clear understanding of the methods underpinning column addition which relates directly to the new style mastery curriculum. I hope the children have as much fun with it as my students did! https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/d_roberts1 Happy learning :)

Comparing 12 hour time lesson, differentiated group activity sheets and powerpoint

This is a lesson which teaches how to work out the differences in time on a 12 hour clock. It is pitched at Lower KS2 and is perfect for Years 3 and 4. It has a 29 page PowerPoint which clearly demonstrates how to work out the differences between times on a 12 hour clock using a scaffolded approach. There is then a fun, differentiated group activity where the children must solve various questions focusing on differences between times. Also, each sheet contains a problem solving extension. Their answers will correspond to a secret code which can be revealed for each group at the end of the activity using the PowerPoint. I have also included a lesson plan which I recommend using when teaching this lesson. I have used it several times now and it has been a great success! The children absolutely love defeating my mathematics villain, Dr Doom. Please rate and provide me with feedback. Similar Dr Doom (and other resources) are available in my shop. Please check it out using the link below. Happy learning :) https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/d_roberts1
