Hold your own SPELLING BEE for KS2 BOOK WEEK

(23)
Here is nearly everything you need to hold your own Spelling Bee. The spelling lists relate to famous children's books so it could be held during a Book Week. You will need a microphone. It is also worth having a cup made for each year group and having each winner&'s name engraved on it. We are shortly holding our first one. I think we will put the words from the lists for each year group in separate hats and have rounds where they individually come up and have to spell the word, by using letter names, speaking into the microphone. If you use this let me know how it goes!

maths Compass Point question cards and answers KS2

(18)
Photocopy and cut up the 18 questions on to card and place on each table. The children will need to know about compass points including NW, NE etc. This lesson helps them to understand quarter turns, half turns and three-quarter turns, compass points and anti-clockwise and clockwise. Practise with the children and see if they can follow instructions themselves, getting them to e.g. face North, turn a quarter turn anti-clockwise. The Smart board introduces the lesson and there is a quiz. The children can mark their work at the end.PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!

6 Philosophy Sessions for years 1-4

If you have never tried philosophy before these lessons are a good starting point! The children really enjoy these discussions/debates! Based on ideas from Philosophy 4 children everything is explained in the lesson plans. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! The children sit in a circle and take turns to discuss what they think the answer to the question is-saying whether they agree or disagree with another child. They improve their listening, speaking and reasoning skills and learn that there is not always one right answer to a question.

Egyptian Adventure Story on Smartboard

Egyptian Adventure Story on Smartboard

(21)
In the style of Pie Corbett I have created a simple story, in five paragraphs, for the children to learn off by heart by adding their own actions. Create a picture map to help remember it (There is an example on the Smartboard of one). Then the children 'hug&' the text by using the story from the sheet to write their own version by changing names and key words (the words to change are underlined and there are gaps for them to add their own words.) I have created a separate resource where they write their own adventure story from scratch, which follows on from this.

Ancient Egypt instructions for mummification

(24)
Here are some detailed instructions, with pictures, to show how the Ancient Egyptians would have mummified a body. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK!Use to help explain this process to children. You can chop up the instructions without numbers on and they can re order them. Pretend they are embalmers and do some drama where they imagine following these steps to mummify a body! They can do it in pairs! The children really enjoy this, especially pretending to put make up on the mummy! They could write their own instructions once they are familiar with the process.

Year 3 /4 Art Patch Work Project

(9)
The children really enjoy creating a beautiful symmetrical piece of patch work which can be hung together all year as a lovely colourful display. I am proud of my original idea, inspired by a book on Amish patchwork. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! No sowing involved! I used fabric glue instead! A great project for the autumn term. The Smart board slides show examples of what the patch work piece might look like but the slides and lesson plans take them step by step through creating their own unique piece. There is an overview of the project with learning objectives.

Maths Money Maze Using and Applying KS2

(7)
This is a Smart Board resource I have made to go with the activity from the nrich website. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! There is a link here to find the other resources/sheets you will need from the website. I have also made a recording sheet and a plenary sheet. The main aim of the lesson is to get the children to record their work as they go along, but they are also practising adding and subtraction skills. I have allowed calculators to be used but this could be made more challenging by not allowing them!

Making 3D Skeleton Shapes Challenge Yr 2/3/4/5

(20)
The children are introduced to the activity on the smart board slides and have to try to guess what the task is about. This is challenging as they will have to think for themselves. You need drinking straws and blue tac. PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK! It helps the children to understand the vocabulary related to 3D shapes, such as shape names, 'edges' and &'vertices&'; and it aids their measuring skills too. There is a link on the slides to this activity which is taken from the nrich website. Take photos as you do the activity as the shapes are fragile.
